car accident, is this drivable?

my dad got into a car accident with this car, he re-ended someone. its going to cost about 80 bucks to tow it to a bodyshop, so i was wondering if this is drivable since the intake tube that behind the bumper came off.

any good good body shops in san francisco?

Haha... I drove my car like that (well, not banged up like that) for a few years without the resonator. Just don't do any driving in rain.

i wouldn't risk it. jeez. sign up for AAA gold. they'll tow you 4 times per year for free, and you get discounts everywhere, so the membership pays for itself time and time again.

You can drive it home, or to a bodyshop. The filter sits in the box. Just make sure the tire, and steering is ok. Also make sure the hood is closed.

As long as the intake is fine from the filter to the throttle body, you'll be fine. The resonator, which sits in front of the filter, is there to reduce air turbulence, which in turn will make your engine quieter. That's why the engine sounds louder whenever you install an aftermarket intake.

No way it will be a salvage based on what you've shown. If the frame is compromised, then yeah, you're getting there. If airbags, frame and tranny/motor have been damaged, then you are getting closer. You pretty much have to be hit from the side (compromising the frame and pillars) or have a massive frontal to salvage this beast at minimum.

Just an FYI, inquire with your auto insurance about adding towing coverage. For me it's $4 per 6/months or something. I guess I could probably get rid of it since I have the AcuraCare now, but will they tow anywhere you want, not just to the nearest Acura dealer?

The $8 a year is worth the peace of mind, IMO. I did have to use it once on my older 92 Accord back in college, worked out great.

+1. Towing coverage is very cheap through most insurance companys. I think mine runs like $6 for 6 months but includes rental car as well. I used it once with my last car when my water pump belt snapped on my way home from work.

And no, it wasn't poor maintenance. Best I can tell, something bounced up into the engine compartment and bent a tooth on the crank pulley. The crank position sensor was externally mounted and used these little "teeth" on the outside of the pulley for reference. Went though 3 water pump belts before I finally saw the bent tooth.

Anyway, pulling this back on track, call your insurance company and ask about roadside assistance / towing coverage. Mine will tow you anywhere you want them to within 14 miles of the pickup location. Then they have a negociated rate of $2.50/mile beyond that with no hookup fees. Cost me $5 to get it home from the parking garage at work (A 14 mile trip.) I gave the guy a $20 and called it a day b/c he was really nice and got there within 15 minutes of making the call to the insurance company.

I have towing + rental car coverage. I forget the exact numbers, but I don't think the two of them amount to more than $30/yr. And I've used both...

Slightly off-topic but since it was mentioned in the thread, Acuracare towing, while included in people's warranties, is not all that great. They tow to Acura dealer's only. That's not always where you want to go.

A few months ago, my oil light came on, so I pulled over (Mem drive, Cambridge for the locals). I looked underneath and saw oil "gushing" from the engine. Stuck my hand up there and sure enough, no oil pan plug. I had the oil changed the day before at a local Honda dealer and the tech didn't tighten the plug. It was actually balanced on the plastic sheet on the bottom of the engine compartment, right below the opening to the oil pan. Acuracare would only bring me to an Acura dealer. I said no thanks, called AAA, used my AAA Plus membership benefits and had the car towed around 25 miles back to the Honda dealer. Needless to say, they accepted full responsibility and re-did the oil change without charge. No apparent damage was done. Glad I had the AAA Plus and the "idiot" light on the dash. Wish I had an oil pressure guage.

AAA Plus is worth every penny, even if you don't have to use it often. The peace of mind as well as the hundred mile towing range to a destination of your choice is so much better than Acuracare.

yes it was......on my 10 mile drive to the body shop, i saw atleast 5 tsx.....ahhhh

well i brought it to the body shop, they estimated 5k right now, but thats with ALL the parts that were damaged. Not all the parts will changed if its so minor, the guy said that state farm will mark down everything they see scratched or broken so he just wrote down whatever he saw. WHen i was driving there, the car steering left almost instantly, the guy said control arm is probably bent or really out of spec.
Well car is sitting at the shop waiting for state farm to take a look at it, ill post picture of it fixed in 1 to 2 weeks.

What kind of collision was it? Did you mention the pulling to the adjuster? Hopefully he looked carefully at the suspension.

front end collision if thats what your asking. the adjuster from state farm is suppose to come today or tomorrow and the guy at the body shop will update me. i told the guy at the body shop that the car pulled left, so he just ordered control arms. car will be sent to a suspension/alignment specialist

Ironically, you'll get more power out of the engine like that than with the lower half of the intake tube installed
