buying a tsx couple questions!!

okay so i was going to buy a tl and reconsidered it because of the transmissions so i guess im sticking to the tsx maybe alittle smaller and have less power but its still a beautiful car okay my questions!!!

04-08 have same bumpers? is there a difference between any of them and whats the best year to buy?

im currently looking at a 2005 but the navi wont come on it stays at the welcome screen how much is that to fix or should i look else where?

anything i should look for on the tsx known issues? thanks

well i guess the 2004-2006 many or just the 05/06 auto transmissions are junk they had alot of issues even if you change the fluid every 10k miles but my 99 accord v6 trans was the same way i just changed it often and never had any issues with it and it has 210k miles and still kicking

The first generation TSX models (04 -08) are further split into two model groups. The 04 and 05 models, and 06-08 models. Both bumpers (f & r) are different (between the 04, 05 and 06-08), as are the hood, rocker panels, and windshield. The steering wheel, AT shifter are revised, added items are memory driver's seat, fog lights, and I'm sure plenty more parts that slip my mind right now. I'm partial to the 05's (presently have an 07, 010), but most would suggest looking for one of the updated models (06-08). I've never had the NAV, but it may come with it's own set of problems. Avoid the 04's, but otherwise they're pretty bullet proof.

as the owner of a 06 tsx, since new, I am partial to that year. Bought it with nav. as we planned on using it for roadtrips which came in handy during our 3 cross-country ones.

I like the +06 models the best. The stock 06 model engine give you about 15 extra HP compared to the 04/05 TSX (a bigger bang for the buck on the 06 model).

Other upgrades:
-Thicker steering wheel with 10 & 2 o’clock grips/bumps
- Bluetooth
- upgrade NAVI with 650 voice commands
- Fog lights
- Different A-spec body kit
- Redesigned hood (no metal strip on hood from grill)
- Two position memory seats
- Car “beeps” when the alarm is set on the remote instead of “honking” the horn
- AUX connector in arm rest for MP3/Ipod
- There is no difference other than TPMS and $$$ when comparing 06 to 07/08 models

The 06 TSX is the "sweet spot" for the 04-08 TSX model years.

There is not much price difference between a navi and non-nave models; BUT, it will cost you some big bucks to fix if it is not working. I would stick with the +06 models with or without Navi (I like navi, dash looks better). I change my 5AT oil every 30,000 miles and no problems so far (110,000 miles now).

According to all sources that I've seen:
The 2005 was rated for 200 HP and 166 torque.
The 2006 was rated for 205 HP and 164 torque.

In any case, I would make sure to buy a model that has a Hondata flash upgrade available.

Actually, the 2006+ TSX did get an increase of close to 15 hp...(13 to be exact.) The measurement standards changed in 2006, lowering all measured numbers, so the 2004-05 models would have been reduced below 200 hp using that standard.

From Road & Track magazine:

"These changes make for an especially strong-running engine, at least at high revs...205 bhp at 7000 rpm, and 164 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500. Compare this with last year's TSX (200 bhp/6800 rpm; 166 lb.-ft./4500 rpm) and you'd have every right to say, "So what?" Yet 2006's ratings are obtained using the new SAE J1349 standard (see Tech Tidbits, November 2005) that yields somewhat lower numbers. In an apples-to-apples comparison, Acura people tell us, the new powerplant is about 13 bhp stronger.

This happened way back in 2006.

04-05 RL 300hp/+06 RL down to 290hp
04-05 TL 270hp/+06 TL down to 258hp
04-05 TSX at 200hp down to around 190hp under new testing

Acura had their HP numbers revised down because of some new SAE testing procedures they started using. The RL/TL engines remained the same for 04-08 years and it looks like the +06 model have less HP when it is the same engines with revised numbers. Acura increased the size of the TSX's throttle body, intake valves were slightly increased, cam duration and lift increased, and higher flow cat added to get the HP to 205 under the revised testing for the +06 Models. Acura did not change any of the before/after HP/TQ numbers so it looks like the TSX only gained 5 hp when it really gained around 15 hp.

Getting Hondata on a 04-05 TSX is like driving a stock +06 TSX. Hondata on a +06 will give you more bang for the buck.

You could check Carmax; but, the price you see is the price you pay. The good thing about Carmax is they only keep the better vehicles and they can ship a car to your location if find the color combo you like.

Also ebay. According to a car collector friend, it has become one of the top car sources for preowned cars. Of course, much like Autotrader, many of the cars would require shipping. But there are always a good number of TSXs available.

No problems with my 5AT after 8 years and with +110,000 miles. I change my 5AT transmission oil every 30,000 miles.

I read a post once that had no information in it, and I would recommend people stay away from those posts too.

I guess they do if they shake and shudder at stop lights have airbag warning lights going off, and other maladies, like that particular car did.

I just looked and Kelley Blue book on an 06 in very good condition is $14K, (depending on mileage, etc. Could be worth more in excellent condition.)

There's an 06 for sale on ebay now. AT, 58K miles, black on black, no nav. Minor accident, full service history, buy it now (or offer) $11800. Looks pretty clean, and the price sounds about right (though I wouldn't pay that much).

Just looked and saw that car. The record says it has been in two accidents, one with moderate damage. --No doubt that is why it is below blue book.

I actually have an 06 TSX A-SPEC with 104k miles for sale. But I was in a hit and run and my side is swiped. Let me know if you're interested.

Oh btw, I've owned 4 TSX's and even at 104k miles, my transmission is flawless. Shifts are crisp. Downshifts are crisp. Shift logic is way better than most cars I drive. And the combination of this engine with this transmission is awesome.

On the contrary, I've driven TL's with less mileage where the gear shifts didn't feel as tight. Honda V6's and their auto trannies...
