Buying a demo model (in Toronto)?

I saw a dealership in Toronto selling two demo models (automatic) with about 12,000 km each. What do people here think about buying a car that has been test driven?

They're asking 33,500 which is not very a very good price. You don't have to pay freight and PDI which is about $1000. Even with that, it's only $500 over invoice and I heard of people here getting that deal on a bran new car.

I'm thinking of asking them to throw in a body kit, trunk tray, extended warranty and rustproofing. Do you guys think that's reasonable for the buyer, and for the seller?

I would stay away from that. I mean 500 over invoice is not even a great deal to begin with for what I would consider a used car.

Demo cars are driven hard and put away wet. It would have to be a pretty amazing deal for me to consider one.

12,000km is alot. It's even past its first scheduled maintenance. I wouldn't touch it. It's like buying a used car for the price of a new car.

If you can do those of us on the other side of the border a favor and convert CND $ to US$
we'll better be able to give our 2 cents...

Need to talk to dealer

I actually bought my TSX in a similar situation. It wasn't a demo, but an Acura USA corporate car with 8000 miles. I was leary about the purchase as well, but it was an 04 which the dealer put through the CPO process, so I automatically got an extension on the warranty, plus I got them to throw in the Acuracare extended warranty and was still able to qualify for new car financing rates because of the model year. So I would advise, that you be careful, but talk to the dealer like you mentioned and see if you can get things thrown in and the price reduced, sometimes these offers can be good opportunities IMO.

Not necessarily, because there is an offset between our prices and yours. I remember last year when I bought mine, we had an offset of about 1500$ US to our advantage.

Different market, different equipments, and different safety standards means there's no point in comparing between Canada and US to see if the deal is good or not. Even I, from Montreal area, couldn't say for the guys in T.O.

I'm in Ottawa, where did you get yours? I'm doing a trade, so I'd like to go through a dealership and avoid the hassle.

I can go for a 2004 if I get a good deal. The best I heard was $500 above invoice, so $32,516. Did your guy give you something close to that? I also want a body kit, trunk tray, floors mats, wheel lock, maybe extended warranty and rust, and hopefully discounts on all of these. Know any dealer who likes to do volume sales and not high margins?

I personally wouldn't buy a demo car. My first car was a demo Ford Escort ZX2 and after I owned it for a bit I regretted buying the demo. I'm pretty sure the sales guy that used it before I bought it abused it and ran it hard. I ended up having lots of problems with it for the 2 years that I owned it. Granted it was a Ford but still. I was young and naive so I thought saving $1500 or so was worth it.
