Brake life on automatic TSX's

How many miles have you gotten on your brakes? Which went first, your front or rear brakes?

I have 103 000 km on mine and they're almost shot I think. It squeeks every time I brake now.

~42,000 and still on the first set. I get a squeak the first time I brake in the morning, but I'm chalking that up to rust.

Replaced the rear pads at 30K; front pads and rotors at 35K. About 35% of the front pads were left when they were replaced; the rear pads were shot when replaced.

Just replaced the rear at 32K. I replaced them with ceramic since they seem to wear faster than the front brakes. Front brakes still going, but probably going to get them redone at Acura because of the rotor warp issue.

52K and the rears would not pass VA inspection. I had my buddy's shop put on ceramics and wanted them to to the fronts and they refused bc they were still in such good shape.

Kinda weird that a few of us have had the rears go first....

If you think your breaks are wearing prematurely and you drive the 6mt, are you down-shifting when coming to stop?

58,000 on my 2006 TSX and my back's are totally shot and my fronts are warped.

BUT... keep in mind for 2 summers now i've pulled an 800lb jetski in all types of traffic. This includes two 1,200 mile trips down to FL.

Going to replace them now with some nice hawk pads and drilled (Just drilled, not slotted or both) TriNET rotors.

According to my 30K mi. service inspection sheet, at 30,494 miles I have 7.3mm left on the front pads and 4.2mm on the rears.

i'm still on my OEM's and i'm at 31k now... last time i took it in for servicing they said i had about 80% left...

i live in LA too, but i have no problems... i guess it comes down to style of driving too. some people live on gas/brakes with little time with no pedal action-- me, i like cruising and not touching either pedal if not necessary.

Just out of curiosity, what is the recommend "mm" width that would be considered too low, and therefore would need replacement?

Good question. I don't know. I'm thinking 2mm would probably be the point where I need to look at new pads. There is an audible pad wear indicator that will signal you when its time to change them.

Do the front & rear pads start out at the same size? As others have commented, usually the front brakes always wear more quickly than the rear. I wonder if maybe Acura overcompensated, and either put much harder or thicker pads on the front.

The older you get, the longer they last.

My wife and daughter have the same cars. My daughter's needed brakes at 30K, my wife's are still good at 50K......

I took my TSX in for my 50K service and I mentioned that my steering wheel was shimmying when braking. He said that there was a service bulletin in regards to the front brake pads causing too much heat which warped the rotors. So they replaced my front pads with the new upgraded versions and resurfaced my front rotors. All free of charge.

I've almost got 20k on my pads and there's still a good amount left. 7.5 mm front and 5 mm rear.

It all depends on the type of driving you do, and your braking style. I do a lot of highway driving, and I'm pretty easy on my brakes (unless traffic screws me up).

I got my brakes done when I hit the 40K mark.

Right now I'm at 48,100 miles and the brakes are fine, just an occassion shake of the steering wheel when I brake from 70 to 40mph, i heard this is normal or something and a lot of other TSX drivers have this too?

I think I have everyone beat. I replaced teh rears at 50k miles. There was no pad material left. And now the fronts are completely shot at 60k miles. The fronts are still stock. I plan on replacing them today. The make a squeaky sound when driving and stopping so i'm pretty sure its the wear indicator kicking in.

geez man pretty dangerous if you have no pad material left, but i have you beat in post counts on here and I joined a few months after you did on AZ.

guess you have no time to post because you're always cruising in the TSX picking up the ladies.

Yup same with me. The OEM pads suck so they heat warped the front rotor. I might go with Brembos and Hawk pads but my friend tells me that I should stick with OEM rotors and get Hawk pads because the Brembos had some complaints about rusting. What do you Brembo owners say?

I have 42K (6MT) and this afternoon the dealer replaced my front rotors and pads under warranty. All I had to do was pay $180 for the rear pads. Now I have 4 new tires and an almost-all-new brake system. Car is just like new again.

On an unrelated note, the TL loaner car was fan-f'ing-tastic. Even though I swore no more FWD cars after I'm done with the TSX...I dunno now. A TL-S with a 6MT+navi would be sweeeeeet...but for the same money, I could get a 2003 M5!
