body side molding
Is body side molding available to put on the TSX? I just realized now when I just put an order out on the TSX that it doesn't have it. I just wanted to put molding to prevent the car from getting dents and dings from other cars. Did anyone else put body side molding on their TSX? Just kind of surprised cause the 99 Accord I had before I will trade it in for the TSX had body side molding included. Any reason why Acura decided not to put this on the new Acuras?

I agree that the TSX looks great without side molding, but I would like it for protection from the oblivious morons who always park next to you and me. There is a post somewhere - it might be in the gallery - of a European Accord with side molding. It doesn't look too bad.

well, looked on the acura website and they don't offer the body side moldings as an exterior accessory, but they do offer body side molding on the new TL. so, i may just ask acura if they can use the TL one to fit on the TSX, would it fit do you think? or maybe i can go to Honda and ask if they could use the body side moldings on the accord to fit in the TSX.

A few others, including myself, have broached this topic too. I would like to minimize dents and dings. It won't stop them all, but it does prevent some dinging.
The European Accord's molding _should_ fit. It's the very same body.
In another message thread or two, I had posted some links to Honda in Germany where they show a plethora of Accord accessories, including molding.
It's unknown about the TL's moldings. Some took US Accord moldings and milled them (not easy!) to fit his TSX. It's looked nice!

In reality, the side molding may or may not prevent dents as there are so many different type/size of cars out there with different door height. The doors don't always hit the molding when they swing open. My Civic came with factory molding but there isn't any dents on them, only on the car body.

Side moldings are a must if you care about maximizing your chances of staying dent-free. I truly hate dents!

There are no side moldings available for the TSX. The Accord moulding would fit but you have to drill holes in the door for clip installation. I saw a picture on one of these sites of someone who took the MDX side mouldings and installed them. These just stick on but you have to paint to match. They looked a little wide for the car and they did break up the nice lines. Not sure which I hate more mouldings or unsightly door dings. I just park away from the crowds and keep my fingers crossed.

thanks for the replies. if acura doesn't do it then, then i'll have to go to a honda dealer and ask them to put those body side moldings on. like other people have said i don't want dings, it does look nice w/o the moldings

I had the same exact dilemma today. My Acura TSX is on the way and I want to get door trim moldings for it. Instead, I checked the web and found these magnetic door trims that you can slap on when you park and take off when you leave. They are PVC and clear and wide enough to really be a dent protector. The only thing is I probably wouldn't put it when the car is dirty since it might be abrasive. Anyone ever see this or have used it?

As unfortunate as it it, Door Dings are a fact of life. I had side-moldings on my last 2 cars (Acura EL & Honda Civic) and I still managed to get Door Dings.
However, parking far away from everyone else is not always a good thing; parking in the wide-open + shopping carts not properly put away + strong Saskatchewan wind = dents in your car.
When I head over to the local Wal-Mart, I always make sure I park with other cars around me but I make sure they're newer, nice cars (they also act as "blockers" against those errant shopping carts...lol).
Best of luck!

I have been careful about not parking next to two-door cars when possible. They tend to have bigger and heavier doors that are more likely to swing out of control.

I think that the TSX looks beautiful without any side moldings! Such clean, flowing lines and the gorgeous shape would get all broken up by the side moldings. In fact, even with side moldings, I am not sure that you would be "ding free".
OK, this is controversial - the newest BMW's are gorgeous (IMHO!) and they don't have side moldings either...

Moldings may not prevent all dings, but they may prevent some dings anyway.
Another problem the lack of moldings introduces is that I can no longer -carefully- rest my door against a closely parked car. I used to do this with my old car, knowing that my rubber molding would make contact and prevent damage to the other car. Doing that now is mutally assured destruction, as both cars would get damaged.
Knowing this, I try to park next to other cars w/o moldings . Maybe it's better that more and more cars lack them.

I put those "edge guards" on my civic and when I took them off it left deep scratches in the paint. Then, they rusted. Not sure if this is common but watch out for those things.

I guess I am asking if anyone else on the forum has had a similar problem. Perhaps, it was something dumb I did (like not clean the door good enough first?). If no one else has had an issue, then you should be ok. I mean, tons of people use them, right?
Sorry, guess thats not helpful.
