New to the board. I was wondering if any of you have gone from BMW 325i or 325is (E36 1992-1995) ownership to the new Acura TSX? I drive a '94 325is 5-spd but saw a TSX at the dealership yesterday and like what I saw but didn't get to drive one. Can't wait to test drive one, a 6-speed!
The TSX is a little heavier but both have about the same power/weight ratio (TSX slightly better). It appears they have similar performance envelopes. I love the fact that the TSX has a chain driving the cams. Acura beats BMW in the new J.D.Powers three year quality survey. And maintenance demands are far less on the TSX I bet.
But my big question is how did you like the change going from rear-wheel drive to front-wheel drive?

There's no way anyone can tell you whether the change to fwd is a dealbreaker for you or not.
It isn't for most people, but it does offer a very different driving experience. Also while the numbers indicate similar power to weight ratio and performance, you'll find that the character of the delivery between the straight six and the i-VTEC four is quite different.
As you recognize - there are plenty of areas where the TSX beats your 9 yo BMW hands down but so would many new cars in that price bracket.
My suggestion is to go on an extended test drive in the TSX (without the salesperson) and find out for yourself. Drive long enough that the novelty of it being different wears off. If the dealer won't let you, find one who will.

Audi A6 2.7T Quattro to TSX
... Audi had a smoother overall ride, felt a little more solid over bumpy roads (ok, it weighed a LOT more!), but the TSX feels "spunkier".
I'm not feeling like I downgraded ... and I'm lovin' the extra $300 a month (lease + gas savings).
