Backseat Rattle

I've had my TSX for about 1 month now and took it on it's first small road trip. I got on some rough roads and I hear a rattle comming from the back seat area. It seems to be comming from the middle of the back seat, potentially the cupholder/armrest area.

Any ideas on things to check for? I checked the 3 latches that cover the carseat latches and they are all closed, and the backseat headrests are also all the way down.

It made the noise with people in the back seat and without.

BTW, the TSX is a great car and comfortable on road trips.

Probably just the wiring underneath the seat. You can remove the bottom part of the seat as it is held on by only 1 bolt and 2 clips.

Could be a bar located behind the back seat and under the rear deck that has been known to rattle as well. Only solution I've heard of is to have it welded.

Check those LATCH covers again. Just because they're closed doesn't mean they don't jiggle around. Mine are pretty loose and floppy.

Check to see that your spare is cranked down tight.

I haven't checked it yet, but I'll check it today and let you know what I find. It sounds like the tools that are with the spare, but I can't put my finger down on it till I check it when it is light out.

Third brake light. Mine rattled at first, so I yanked it out. (I have the OEM spoiler, so I don't need that light anyway)

How did you get it off. I have the rear spoiler and would like to get rid of the useless light myself. Are there any exposed holes once you take it off?

Mine wasn't that difficult to get off. I had someone in the trunk pushing up on it while I pulled on it from the back seat. It came right out. I was worried after I read about all of the people on here who broke things trying to get theirs off. I didn't break a thing and the clips on the light are all still in tact as well.
There is a hole after you take it out, but some mesh from a craft store and some weather stripping foam (the kind with the sticky stuff on one side. I got it at Lowe's), and a can of black rubber spray paint fixed that problem. It looks like I have a third speaker in my back deck. The visability is so much better now that the hump is gone!

Funny thing is...dwest PM'd me months ago - after seeing the same photos that clearly show the exposed holes - and got the same instructions PM'd back...yet here he is today asking again . (check your PM box dwest!)

Had a similar problem with my 2005 TSX. After two unsuccessful visits to my dealer the service manager took a short ride, lying in the trunk, and determined the cause of the problem immediately. There was a joint that needed to be spot welded. Just bring it into the dealer and they should be able to fix the problem. Good Luck
