Talking Awesome MPG figures!

...at least for highway driving. I was a bit disappointed when the computer kept displaying 20-21mpg during my daily commute to work in Los Angeles traffic. I had a road trip over the weekend to Santa Barbara, about 300 miles round trip, two passengers and I got 28.5 MPG! That's the highest ever, and I was surprised to hit that with the manual transmission. I had mostly highway mileage, but I did drive some city and my speed was in excess of 80mph many times, and had two extra passengers. I was also stuck in some traffic for about 40 minutes of the trip. I only got 1200 miles on it after the trip..so it's not even considered broken in. Overall, I was amazed that I hit the hwy mileage figures for the first time. I think I had to credit the TSX with his low Cd of drag. This car simply flies on the freeways

When I travel on all highways, I get over 30 MPG routinely. When some city driving is mixed in, I get between 26-29 MPG. The fuel mileage is impressive in this car.

my TSX only averages 18-21MPG in the city, and 27-30MPG on the highway......avg in mixed driving is 22-24MPG.

I average around 26-30 with mixed freeway and city driving. The best was the first tank from teh dealer when I bought it. I went 430 miles with city and highway driving. Something like 32 MPG.

I kid you not, I AVERAGED 37 MPG on my 1 hour trip from NJ to PA a few weeks ago. I just filled the tank before i left, and when i got home i check the trip computer. Just keep those RPMs at 3K or less.

On my way back from North Carolina for one stretch of road we averaged 34 MPG. Its possible with this car, you just gotta baby it.

This is what I'm averaging and I drive 90% city. Most of it is based off driving style.

For you city drivers... how many miles do you put on your car a week?

I drive about 140 miles a week. Sometimes more if it's a holiday or business travel.

4 months w/3685 miles. About half of the miles are trips.

For all you NAV owners ... dont go by what the trip computer says. Its often very wrong. Calculate your mpg manually to get the true number.

No difference with easy driving

Maybe someone else has noticed, but in my case my car gets around 21 in stop and go driving whether driven hard, in vtec often, or by my wife who really, truly putters with it. I found that very odd.

Yes, I find that also. What kills you in city driving is the long idling, which can last minutes, not the high reving which last a few moments. Idling gets you 0 MPG while high reving can probably get you about 14 mpg. All those minutes at 0 mpg will kill your MPG for sure! Sadly, i get around 21 mpg in the city also (a lot of stop and go).

As for fdl's idea, I will calculate the actual overall mpg manually and compare that to the navi mpg figures. It'll be interesting to see how close it is to real MPG figures.

This cant possibly be true. Maybe your wife is secretly street racing with it! Also I'll say it again, calculate your mpg manually cuz teh trip computer is unreliable.

Ok... that's not bad so while you don't get the best mileage in the city you are saving money by not having to drive as far. I drive about 350 miles a week (work travel, not including weekend).

I have 15,092 miles on my TSX as of today. I drove the car a lot over the summer....I just couldn't let go of her during that time.

I averaged around 2,500 a month. Back in June I drove to NYC and Washington DC in my TSX to see friends. Also drove the TSX to Iowa City, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Toronto, Canada. I did a lot of travelling in my TSX.

Currently, I am driving my Accord beater more now.

Calculate your gas mileage based on fillup-to-fillup miles per gallon. The trip computer is misleading.

That's what I was just about to mention. Mine has been consistently high every time except for one. (== fluke) Typically the trip comp says 28.8 where my manual calc comes out with 26.5 - 27.5 (50% city .. and I don't coddle it under 3k rpm). Although it seems to be closer for highway. It says something like 34 and the actual is 33.8 .

Then again, its giving you an average mpg vs our actual. Maybe the method it uses for sampling produces inherently high figures??

...maybe one of these days I'll setup a website for mpg tracking.

For those of you who got excellent mileage, I just wonder how long (or how many miles) it took you to break in your car, before you got those impressive numbers?

Still has not broken in yet. When i got the 28.5mpg, i didn't even have 1200 miles on it yet. Just a lot of hwy miles, few city and stop and gos. It would be a while again before I get that kind of nice mileage, since i commute in stop-and-go traffic

Second gas tank, I was already starting to get the numbers down.
