Auto VS Manual

I was just wondering who would win in a race between an auto TSX and a 6sp TSX (both equally good drivers). I was just wondering because i dont understand why a manual car is faster. If all the TSX's have 200hp, why is a manual quicker?

and for all those who know everything about cars...I know...there aren't stupid questions...just stupid people.

Their gear ratio is different. Even if you have SportsShift in Auto and trying to get from 0-60mph, Auto will lose by at least .7s since that's how long it takes for SS to change from 1st to 2nd gear.

This is the simple version, I am sure there will be mroe detailed answers to this.

In the most simple way to explain. And #1 reason. Generally speaking, manual cars are usually lighter than automatic cars. But I know there are many other reasons as well!!!

also an AT losses more HP than a MT. I think the TSX's AT losses 20% hp while the MT losses about 15%. Thats actually pretty good in that most AT lose about 24%. Include that plus the weight issue.

It depends on the driver's skill sometimes, in some ways the AT could be faster if the person driving the MT doesn't shift at the right times. However, the MT I think would be faster than the AT in most cases.

This issue has been beat to death. Try a search.

In short - gear ratios, weight, and transmission losses are the reason.
