Auto Shows
Well, Detroit auto show ended last week, and I must say some peculiar patterns emerge. When one visits Acura or Honda or Toyota there is virtually no crowd even if the place is packed. It can be very difficult to get into some cars that are hot, but around these there there was virtually no traffic. Scion managed to attract a big following. Lexus does better than the others mentioned above because of their prestige factor.
Most persons at the Detroit show go to Ford, GM and Chrysler. These guys draw the biggest audiences other than the exotics (Ferrari, Lambo, Rolls etc.). When I saw the TSX there last year, I said: 'what the hell is this?" I never knew it was it the pipeline. Despite the crowd at the show, there was nobody around when my son and I checked the car out. This year, there were 2 tsx's - one tucked out of the way upstairs, the other more prominently displayed. No wait to sit in either one. Same for the 2 TLs on display.
Was it like this in LA and Chicago? I suspect not. It may just be a Detroit thing.
Best car last year: Cadillac 16 (yup, a GM car was the coolest IMO).
Best car this year: Ferrari Scaglietti - truly beautiful car.
Runner up: Bentley Continental GT (an awesome value - better than the TSX). I have a C&D or Automobile ? picture of some dude holding on for dear life going 204mph in it.

You have to keep in mind that Detroit is the Motor City. Lot's of people are employed by the Big 3, it's UAW all the way with most visitors. You have to admit it makes it nice when you wanna see the import stuff, you don't have to wait. Try getting near the Ford Cobra or the GT or even the Mustang, can be an adventure. I didn't get to the show but I heard it was pretty good. Oh well there's always next year.
