Anyone installed a remote starter?

As a New Englander buried in cold wintry snow at the moment, I've been considering getting a remote starter installed on my TSX. Has anyone done this already?

Recommendations? Advice?

I did. The clifford Matrix RS1.5. Works great and the range is very good. And range is what I needed because of the distance of the parking lot from where I work.

I have a Compustar bi-directional remore starter... It works very well and the distance is just phenomenal (I was able to start my car about 1 KM away). If distance is a big factor for you, get the WSS model (wide spectrum system). If not, you can get the FM modem of the same brand... They are not cheap but the are considered some of the best on the market...

Look it up

I believe Clifford has a module that by-passes it.

I'm looking at getting a new security/remote-start system in my TSX. I was over at the audio/alarm shop Saturday and they suggested the Clifford Matrix 2.1. The people at the shop were aware of the Acura imobilizer thing (in the key) and quoted my system appropriatly to deal with it. I know some shops do it ghetto style and take a key, but if you go to a good shop they will know the right way to do it (the by-pass module, I think its pn# 555 for the matrix systems).

What are you guys paying to have this installed? I'd love to get the Clifford as its probably a better alarm system than the stock one and it has the remote starter. I just won't want to carry 2 fobs around.

the clifford replaces the stock alarm, basically the acura alarm would still be there but you would never use it. you wouldn't use the acura fob anymore, you use the clifford one and that one gets programmed to do everything on the car (locks, remote start, trunk, anything else you want)

can't give you a specific cost on install, the price i was quoted was the total package, the system including installation.

No biggie though call your dealer and get another if you need one that bad tell him you lost it and tell him to hook you up with one cheap.

What are you getting quotes for or paying to have installed. I got one for my sister last year for Christmas. She has a ES300 Lexus. It cost me $275 installed. I purchased/installed it at BrandsMart. The Ford dealership I was working with at the time quoted me $350.

I have not got one myself yet... I'll update everyone when I get mine done after the first of the new year.

The quote I got was around $440 installed. That was the Clifford Matrix 2.1 system which is a complete alarm system and remote start. Included the re-programming of my factor fob features (trunk release, window stuff, etc). The shop is known around here as being the shop to get this stuff installed at. My friend has his Mustang GT done there and they did a kick ass install. He's got a manual tranny and they installed a remote start on it, they definitely know their stuff there. Plus they pay attention to detail, any color alarm led's you want, place wherever you want, basically anything you want they can do.

As for the key thing, if your shop wants a key to cut and put in the car I'd go somewhere else. Thats a real half-assed way of doing it. If you're gonna spend money go somewhere where the people know what they are doing. Clifford makes a bypass module for the chips in all the keys.
