Americans would you buy your TSX if it cost you $6000 USD more
A number of thread have mentioned the difference in cost between the Cdn TSX and the US TSX.
The question to my American friends is, would you pay $6000 USD more for your TSX?

That's the well equiped 325i territory.
Unless the TSX has Turbo, SH-AWD and more aluminum pieces to hold the same weight as the 2006s.

1) TSX was the upper end of what i wanted to pay
2) for $6k more i would have looked at something more expensive: TL, volvo, lexus

Excited, you got to know that their bmw/lexus, etc, all cost cheaper in .us than .ca.
If you want to add 6k more on a TSX, pls consider that the BMW/Lexus will also cost 6K more (give or take)

That would depend. If all the cars also cost more, and the TSX still fell where it was in term of pricing, then probably.
If we're talking about a straight up $6000 price increase with no change to the prices of other cars from other brands, then no. I probably would have ended up with something like the Mazda 6 or the WRX.

The difference in the Honda Civic coupe between the US and Canada is only a little over $400 USD. Their is definately a premium paid to get an Acura here.
(I was trying to understand how many 17, 16 and even 15 year old gentlemen in the States could afford (their parents could afford) a vehicle that is a little out of reach of many Cdn buyers. It is definately a more affordable vehicle in the US)

certainly not. the primary argument i've made to get this car over others was that you can't get all these features for the price. if i had to pay around $35,000 for this car, i would not have even test driven it (i don't think at least). if i was shopping that category, i'd probably lean towards bmw or lexus. if i could get past my worries about bmw quality, i bet i'd get the bmw (maybe the 330xi)

Someone stole "My Garage"
The Accord EX V-6 is about $27K USD, and $34K CDN. (before taxes in both cases). Let's call that about a $7000 difference then.
The Civic EX Sedan is $19K USD, and $23.3K CDN. That's about $4000 difference.
IMO, the TSX is roughly the same price when comparing RELATIVE position in the marketplace. Mind you, that says nothing about the value of the CDN $ right now, being at 15 year highs. $29,000 USD = about $33,622 CDN. Paying $37,300 CDN + options is more than unfair markup for Canadians - we're getting ripped.

It's funny a lot of people would have chosen the TL if the price was closer. I could have afforded the TL but chose the TSX. The fact that the TSX was cheaper was a factor, but that was only because I felt the two vehicles were close. I also like the better gas mileage, fold down seats and signal mirrors on the TSX, all things that were important to me.

Based on a single currency, whatever it is -
Are you suggesting Canadian owners pay a lot more than US owners ?

What Would Don Draper Do?
if the price on only the tsx increased by $6,000 then no...i don't think i'd have bought. that's because i wouldn't have been able to afford it. i would have probably ended up with the maxima, which was my second choice.
if i could afford it though, i'd probably opt for the tl or a4. granted those prices stay the same.

When you add in the fact that the standard of living in the US is higher, the difference grows. The simple way of saying it is that it is more difficult for Cdn's to afford a TSX than their US counterpart.

Is this true for the non-nav ? cause my undestanding is that nav is more than US$2k in CND.
Maybe other reasons :
* Higher volume of order from US dealers ?
* Higher demand from CND buyers ?

With the TSX I feel like I got an original M3 only with four doors, more power and a nicer interior.
The economics is an added bonus that it can run cheap and reliable just like an Accord without having to be an Accord.

But everyone please note, that if you have to pay 6k extra for the TSX, you have to pay 6k extra for TL/A4/3series,/IS, etc.

Yes, I will even it is 10k more. Since other than S2000, no other car offer that sweet & precise manual tranny and I need 4 dr. The only car I will considered now is 330i. But it is too risky and too unsecure to have 2 BMW unless I have a Honda(but TSX is the only 4 dr Honda that I will get) as my third car. So no matter what and how much it cost, I still end up with a TSX. BTW, I am in Canada, so is it count?

MSRP for TSX with Navi is $38,700CDN = $33,424US as of today.
US MSRP = $29,890US for a difference of $3,534 USD in real value. Not six grand.
Remember, the US dollar has been weak lately. It's possible that the price was at parity at one point and the exchange rates have deviated. Also, it's very likely that Canada has tariffs, levies, and fees built into that price.
You want to see a bad example, go to England, where items that cost $10 here will cost £10 there, or the equivalent of $17.66US. You buy a Big Mac combo there and it works out to about $9US.
