I gotta black on Canada day.
My price I think is good for a few reasons:
1. Salesperson is spouse of my coworker (which I do not know well) and he mentioned he could take at least $3000 off 6 months ago when I went for test drive.
2. June was a very hurting month for all car dealerships.
3. I traded in car which they can make back money when they resell (so more flexible on price)
What bugs me most of all, is my girlfriend thinks I just got an average price...women?!?!

my next question is did you get screwed on the trade in? Many dealers give you a break on the new car or what you want on the trade in. Then again, you know someone who works there, which helps alot.

I got maximum black book value on trade in. I sat with the salesperson and we both went to www.toyota.ca which gives black book value and agreed on price from there.
Knowing someone partially only helps you a bit, cause end of the day, sales people are sales people they they wanna make money too.
If I had to do it again, I would recommend anyone go to www.carcostcanada.com and find out "true cost" and negotiate up from there.

That's almost impossible. I can't believe I have only knock down $2300 last year in October on my PW and I though I had the best price. :p
But I have no trade-in at all though.
Car dealer usually mark up $4000~$6000 on the maximum trade-in black book value when they re-sell the car. But it's actually more negotiable then new one.

Are you talking about $37000 including all taxes and freight charges???

Yes the price includes everything. I bought mine from Terrace Gate Acura. I traded in my other car though (they gave me the highest trade-in value from the black book). After the trade in I ended up paying less than $30k. The new sales manager at Terrace Gate Acura is awesome. Planning on getting a new MDX in ~2 years from them. The best prices from other dealers were in the mid 38k range (without trade in).

So you paid 31600 with dealer prep?
Dealer cost is 32016 plus 950 trans + prep : Total 32966.
The dealer would have lost 1366 $ on the deal. The only explanation would be a factory-to dealer incentive, a holdback (not sure if they still exist with Honda) or he has a cushion on the trade-in value.
If you tell us what car you traded-in and for what price, it would be easier to get a true picture of the transaction.
Of course it is nobody's business but yours...But Hey! You started it !

Bernard,
Your questions are valild and here's the details.
1. I negotiated $3200 off dealer prep BEFORE informing them of trade in
2. Since I got $3200 off the front, I didn't want to be too greedy and negotiate too much on trade in.
You are right the toyota black book value is below market. In my case I got $6,400 on trade, but probably could have sold my car for about little over $8000 retail (based on similar ads in buy & sell). BUT if you factor in time and taxes I save by not selling vehicle myself, everything is well worth it.

hmmmm. note to self goto vancouver to buy next car. i can't believe you got 3200 off sticker. It is a brand new car right? its not a demo or a test driver or a loaner?

Every year Dateline on NBC go to dealerships throughout Canada and shop for new cars. They randomly pick dealerships and see what kind of deals they can get and detect any scams. Last year I believe Vancouver was one of the worst places to buy a new car and the best place to shop was Winnipeg.

Hi there, I've been negotiating a deal with another dealer and he told me the best they could do would be fleet rates which would be the invoice price plus $500. I think invoice is 8% less off the sticker price ... so I can only get around $2280 off the price of the car. How did you get $3200????
Feedback please?

$3200 may be hard to believe, but it's true. The car is new, not demo, not loaner I drove it with 21K off the lot. By law a care with 500K is still considered new. Talk to "Ralph" at Burrard Acura. Like I said before, the only person who thinks I just got "ok" deal is my girlfriend...what do women know huh??

My buddy bought one a few months ago and got $2400.00 off sticker price. I think that is not too bad of a deal. You just have to shop around and he went to two different dealers to find the deal he wants. It depends who the salesman is. The cars been out for over a year and 3months so you should all be finding decent deals for the TSX. Especially, when Acura has so many direct competition such as the BMW 3series/Lexus IS300/Mazda 6/Nissan Altima/Mercedez 230coupe/and so on and so on.....etc!!

The benefit of trading in your vehicle would be the tax break. You only pay tax for the difference you work out to be!! Could save you thousands of $$$$

I understand your skeptcism about -$3200 off. Here's my explanation:
1. Possibly "invoice" price is NOTt really their true cost...even if "invoice" is cost, dealers can get additional cash incentives from manufacturer.
2. Car sales for dealerships are extremely slow as Acura had admitted and perhaps make money back in other areas, financing charges, maintenance, after market parts.
Most of all, if I could "scan" my purchase agreement and post, this will put the skeptcism about having $3200 off once and for all.

Could you give me the name of the dealership and the guy you dealt with? I'd drive to Toronto for that price... or at least use it as a bargaining chip.
