Alignment - Just missed the boat...

My car seems to pull to the left slightly- some days it seems fine, some days it pulls to the left, even once it seemed to pull to the right. I've been checking the tire pressure, driving on the flatest, open parking lots to try to test it, etc.

Well, after a few weeks of procrastination I decided to call up the dealer to setup an appointment to check my alignment.

Anyway, it turns out I needed to bring it in within the first month or 1000 miles- I've had the car about a month and a half and have 1074 miles on it. Doh!!

I don't know if this is an Acura policy or this specific dealer's policy. I guess I get what I get for being lazy...

Total BS - ACURA policy is first 12 months/12000 miles an alignment is free. This is waht John Eagle Acura in Houston told me. I got my car aligned at 10000 miles.

Thanks for the info miner.

That was one of the reasons I was procrastinating a bit as I thought I heard that same thing somewhere (probably on this board). I guess I'll be calling some other Acura dealerships and see what they tell me...

I'd call TLC and ask. If they say it's a year, tell them to call the dealer.

I've had 3 new cars over the past 10 years and all 3 have yet to get a single alignment. They all go straight. What gives?

Well, I just called two more dealers and they concur with the first one as they claim this is Acura's policy (1 month/1000 miles). Maybe this policy changed between the time you were told about it miner? I'll call TLC and see what they say- I guess it can't hurt...

The alignment thing falls into the minor imperfection category that can plague a new car coming off the assembly line- I guess you just got lucky 3 times in a row

I called TLC and they said that did fall under the "Adjustment Warranty", which is 12 months/12000 miles.

I will be calling the dealership back and see what they have to say now...

Took my car in this morning to get the alignment looked at. Got a call from the dealership this afternoon telling me that it was out of alignment and that it was fixed under warranty and there was no charge.

Thanks for the info ryanc44. A piece of mind if my car's alignment starts to give me problems.

It's amazing what some dealers try to pull OR how clueless they are when it comes to Acura's policies.

Well, my car tracks straight after the alignment, but now the wheel is at 12:05 (12:00 being TDC) to go straight. If I set it at 12:00 it pulls to the left again.

I know alignments now are all laser/computer this and that- you'd think with all that precision the bonehead mechanic would think to set the steering wheel straight before starting the job...

And people wonder why I try to do all the work on my cars myself...

Needless to say I'll be calling the dealer back today.

My car was pulling to the left and I took it to the dealer. The dealer said that is was not out of alignment. They switched the tires around. When I got it back, it seemed to be a little better for a couple of weeks. But now it is pulling to the left again.

What should I do?

Thanks for the info Tirebiter. You'd think the dealership would be on top of this stuff- what am I thinking?

I'm wondering if this would only apply to a car off the assembly line that had a crooked steering wheel, or if it occurs after an alignment? Hmm...

I'm headed to Hondalink to see if there's anymore information about this.

Sounds to me like you should stop taking your car to that lazy dealership and take it somewhere that will remedy the situation properly.

Tire inflation and uneven tread wear can affect the alignment- but figure the tires will only wear unevenly if the alignment is out of whack in the first place, you know?

How many miles does your car have on it? If you still have under 12K then an alignment adjustment is under the new car portion of the warranty, that is unless they see that you've run into the curb and bent some suspension parts or something.
