AHHHH my new car,..damaged

Ok,.............so long story short,.....i scratched up the front of my car,..kinda bad,....I think so anyway,.......on the left side of my car,........on the front bumper right by the wheel,...and a little where the metal starts,...sorry, no pic.

I have to get this repainted/repaired,..............what should I do. Can I just take it to a body shop type place and get them to buff it and paint it?

Is taking it into the dealer a bad idea,..........its a lease,......does the dealer even fix stuff like this,.........I assume it would cost A LOT at the dealer,...........but might be better work? Input from ppl in Toronto might help in terms of body shops etc.

Any input appreciated,..........I need to go break something now to release my anger about the damage on my poor car. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH figures this happeneds,............what a crappy day im having.

you can make an insurance claim if you have that coverage. If you financed it, then you probably do. Regardless, the dealer does not do body work, so you'll have to take it to a body shop and it won't be cheap. I hope it wasn't your fault...if it was, than I hope you'll be more careful in the future.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I know how sick you must feel in your gut.

It happened, nothing that you can do to change it, so move forward, take it to three body shops to get estimates, then decide whether it is better to pay cash so that it does not count against your insurance or if it is better to put into a claim.

I never had a lease car so I don't know the implications to the lease.

Good luck

Excited

thanks guys,..............ya it is a lease so I am not too sure what I should do.

Believe me,.......I AM VERY CAREFUL,....but where the car was,...there are inches MAX,...so any tiny error can be disasterous.......just ask my dads infiniti mirror to tell you about it hahahaha...but shit happends,.........so I cant stay mad,.......I just gotta get it fixed so I dont have to look at it anymore,.........yep, sick in my gut for sure. I couldnt believe it,.......

I suppose I should make it clear,.........There were no other cars involved,..........just me and the two houses that I have to SQUEEZE our cars between while backing out,........sometimes the houses win,...like today. Its kind of ,....only a matter of time,......it happends eventually,......you lose your attn for a second,.....or in the winter when its slippery,.......thats all it takes. I only have an inch or an inch and a half to play with on each mirror,......so there is almost NO room for error. Since I have only done it a few times so far with the TSX,.......im not as smooth,..and mistakes count BIG TIME in this game. My neighbours stupid ass hose distracted me cause it was sticking out and I was worried it would scratch the paint,.........and it was enough to not notice the front end had not cleared part of the house,...............game over,....as i lined up the car better for the last part of my driveway thats quite slanted,...and the walls drop down to knee height. I hope no one thinks Im some shit driver or anything,.........it takes a lot of skill to do,......no one can ever believe how we get our cars out. We should move,.....hahaha.....stupid Toronto. I will take a picture when I get my camera back in a few weeks if anyone actually cares to see what I am talking about.

Thanks for the comments,......I guess,.haha,..........anyone know if there is something I need to do cause it is on lease???????

You dont,....oh, sorry,........don't,....although proper english is,..do not......have to criticize. I just graduated from university so I think its,...ops,....it's safe to say I know a few things about punctuation. your 1" or 1 1/2" of play between the mirrors and the walls applies when you fold your mirrors in?

take it to the dealer. see what they have to say about it.

didn't you just get your car like 2 weeks ago?

Ya,...not even 2 weeks,......SUCKS. I would say it is about an inch or so with the mirrors out. The thing is, If I put the mirrors in,......I cant see the walls in terms of where the back end of the car is. So, if i am moving in a slight angle down the driveway I could potentially back the rear end into the wall. Putting the pass. mirror in is way to risky. I have to be able to see that side of the car. The cars butt sticks out about as far as the side mirror I think anyway. The drivers mirror,........I suppose I could pull that in. I like having it out so it keeps the car even in relation to the wall on each side of the car. Where I scraped my wheel well or whatever, the two houses end,...widen a little where the front porches are,..then narrow again till the end of the driveway.

What I think basically happened was that as I cleared the houses, the mirror was clear and past but the front end was not totally clear. So as I moved the car around a bit as to not get scratched by the hose, I put too much attn on the hose and forgot the front end was not cleared yet (or I had moved back up a bit to reposition myself better,....cant remember). The rest is history,........I thought it was the hose that made the HORRIBLE HORRIBLE sound,.....but alas,...much worse,....lol. DEF a brain fart on my part.

I think I am going to take your advice aficiOnadO,...see what the dealer has to say about it.
Thanks

I wouldnt go throught your insurance cause you prob have a deductible plus your rate will climb. just my

LOL,.......Im trying to get a hold of my friend so I can take some pics for you guys. Ya, its a tight spot,.....stupid Toronto house.

Not east york, but good guess. I am west end (old metro TO,....towards Etobocoke). I live in Bloor West Village (you prob know where that is),...block south of Bloor street. They are old houses,......we have to measure our cars before we buy them to make sure they will fit,.hahaha. Im gonna drive over to my buddys house and pull him out of bed if i have to so I can at least show you the damage. Its not crazy or anything,......but on a new car its like,..SHIT. "dont care", you are prob right,.....I would guess around 800. I will let you know later today what it is going to cost.

Thanks

Sorry to hear that. Feel your pain! I have my TSX fixed by KKT Auto collision in Markham. They are excellent! When other bodyshop are running into problem they will ask KKT to help them, so you can see what kind of reputation they having.

Thanks for telling me about that body shop ianS. My dad works out in markham (cant think of the street name though,...just off the 407,...think its Warden). He could take it out one day with him perhaps and get the work done there.

My friend took some pics of the scratches over at his house,...just waiting for him to send them to me.

It doesn't look too bad. I'm no body expert so I wouldn't know how much it would cost to fix something like this.

Ya,....could have been worse I suppose if I really wasnt paying attn. It will be good as new in no time. I asked my dad about the width of the driveway etc. He said the TSX is like 76 inches to the mirrors. The driveway is 79 inches,.....and about an extra inch wider in a bunch of spots. I think those are the right numbers,.............so my guessing of about an inch and a half on each mirror was pretty good. I will see if I can get a few shots of our cars in the driveway,.....and what it looks like while im backing out. I laugh sometimes at how close the walls are.

I backed out tonight in the dark for the first time with the TSX,.......talk about stressful,.........its hard to see the distance from the sides/mirrors to the wall. I backed out with my left hand on the mirror/touching the wall because the driveway is dark,..and I didnt want to have anything else happen. LOL. NO mishaps,........Im getting pretty good at backing out now,.........but at night is just NO fun.

Anyway, thanks for the comments/advice/rec. of body shops,.......greatly appreciated. Ill post some pics if I get anything interesting,...............if anyone cares,.....I suppose no one really does.

Steve

I know how u feel man.... MY MOTHER of all people decided that she would try to maneuver her car out from inside the garage AROUND my car that was parked directly behind her, outside of the garage! SHE FIGURED "WHY WAKE HIM UP TO MOVE HIS CAR, I CAN MAKE IT AROUND!!!" NEEDLESS TO SAY, she hit and scratched up my front bumper juss to the left (drivers side left) of the liscense plate.... its pretty bad, and I feel like someone ran a machete across my face too!!!

Maaco is sayin about 500 bucks CAD to fix it!!!
I dont trust the dealership..the wway they make it sound, they're likely gon have their summer intern try to fill in the scratch with a touch-up pen... So I'd rather do it right....
IF ANYONE IN TORONTO KNOWS ANY OTHER REAL GOOD QUALITY BODYSHOPS THAT COULD FIX MY BABY'S FACE!!! PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

THANKS MOM!!!

Sorry to hear about the front of your baby,.haha. ianS said that a place in markham called KKT Auto Collision is a good place that he has been too. I am not sure where I am going to go yet. The dealer gave me the number for the guy that does stuff for them (and other dealers in the area,.....she SAYS),.......and he works out of the back of his van/truck. That sounds kind of ODD to me,..........but if the dealer uses him,.....it must be ok,...one would think. Its not body work,...just like buffying and painting,.....but I still dont see how the heck he could paint out of the back of a van. Sounds a bit sketch,....but the guy goes into the dealer each week to do work on cars for them......dealer told me a few hundred for the fix up. They gave me his number for direct contact,.......SHE admitted to me,..... so they wont have to mark up the price on me,..........WOW, honesty from a dealer,.haha.

Hey thanks alot... I work for a Mobile Auto glass company here in Toronto (Standard AutoGlass) and I was amazed how good a job we can do replacing a whole damn windsheild, or backglass or watever else we do, RIGHT IN OUR CUSTOMERS DRIVEWAYS!
So im not all that surprised that someone could repaint or repair a car Mobile either... If your gonna get yours done by him, let me know how it goes... and if its cheaper than Maaco why not?

BLESS!!!

Ya, I dunno who I am going to use yet. Just was being cautious about the guy working from his truck,.......he must be pretty good if the dealer uses him I would assume. I am reluctant however,......because the dealer looked at my car,...and said they didnt think any body shop work needed to be done. If I meet up with this guy however, and he tells me to go to a shop cause he cant do all of it,....I will have wasted a lot of time cause he will only come as far as oakville for me the dealer said,.........I have not called him yet.
