Acura TSX? Or Nissan 300zx?

Ok i currently have a Nissan 300 with intake and new exhaust and soon to get a catback. I was wondering, should i just sell my nissan, use the money i saved up, and buy a Acura TSX? My Dad just suggested it because the Nissan has 171,000+ miles on it. I love my car though!!! He told me that once the Z gives out, we might look at the TSX.. But i told him "fuck" the tsx i am going to rebuild the Z engine and keep my car forever. Is it even worth rebuilding? Ive raced Acuras before and i blew them away, they only have like 180, 190 HP.. My Z has 240.. And i always talked crap bout them hehe. But i don't know really what to do..

How much is it to rebuild an engine?? Please tell me..

Even brand new the TSX and Nissan are in completely different classes and cant really be compared. I'm not really sure what you are asking. You want to know if you should rebuild your 300 engine? If you want to race, then yes.

Welcome to the site,

I really wish I had one of those bunny with a pancake on its head pics that killer always posts, because I'm sorta lost.

The two cars are in no way shape or form comparable.

I still say get the TSX though.....

::edit:: Im not trying to compare cars, im just trying to get some opinions on wut other ppl would do. Keep an old but fast Nissan, or buy a new and sorta fast Acura TSX...

What are you looking for in a car? Speed, luxury, handling? Will you be racing the car at a 1/4 mile track or Auto Xing. I guess there are alot of factors to consider here.

I personally hate dumping money in old cars, but thats' me.

Well i drove in a Acura TSX and i thought it was nice. It had speed, luxury, and handling.. Im not a hardcore racer, i just like to talk a lot of smack to those who are, but i race from time to time. I really just want looks, i know the Acura looks pretty bad ass, but the Z design is a classic.. Ugh, im just stuck, i dont wanna get rid of my Z, but the Acura is so appealing to me..

What year is the Z? If you spend a couple of k to put a new engine in, how much will it be worth? Will you find that if you start down the process of putting in a new engine you'll fall into the trap of "while we're in there" and replace clutch, etc?

Decide what you want out of a car - and what you need. Does it have to be 4 door, 5 seat, reliable etc. or could you live with a 2 seater that broke down a lot.

There's no real way for anyone to give you advice on this without knowing a lot more information.

well, if you still want to race stick with the Z since it has more HP and larger engine. The TSX was not meant to be a race car, it is a sport sedan with a 200HP 4-cylinder engine. But since it is new, there are still unrealized power gains that the aftermarket community will provide. But IMO, if you customze the hell out of the Z and TSX, I think the Z would still be faster.

i dont know how much a nissan 300 engine would cost to rebuild but a friend of mine had a '92 Integra. He got water into his engine thru the CAI so he got it rebuilt for about $2500. Go to a mechanic and get an estimate...

He's not old enough to realize his Z will be worth quite a bit of money (well-restored) in the future. If I were in his shoes, I would keep the Z and get the TSX for a daily driver. That way, when you get out of school and get a job, you can have a nice 'pseudo-classic' to play with.

If you have deep pockets and you are a speed freak, then restoring the Z might be the better choice ONLY if it is a Z32.
If you have a Z31 turbo..get rid of it and get the TSX. If you have the Z32 and you are N/A(I'm Assuming) then I'd restore it. Those Z32 still look better than 90% of the cars on the road today, and its 13 years old. Also the Z32 N/A have far fewer problems than the Z32TT.

However you will always deal with the fact that a new car in most cases will give you fewer problems than a used one.

Some other things to consider:
It might help if you told us more about yourself.

Is it YOUR money that's going into the rebuild? How much do you have to work with?

The age question is valid too. If you're in HS or college a fun, fast car is reasonable. If you're out in the world with a job, it's smarter to go with the TSX.

One of the reasons I got the TSX was the four doors since I have a wife & kid. Doesn't sound like you're married so maybe an RSX Type R would be a better fit.

Are you aware that you've posted essentially the same thing 27 times? Everyone knows the Accord V6 is faster. Give it a rest, and contribute something useful.

I'd rather do 7.2 seconds in a sexy japanese assembled tsx, than 6 seconds is a BUTT UGLY american assembled boat.

That's tough...

171,000 miles is a lot of engine wear as well as a lot of wear on the rest of the car. Keep in mind that replacing the engine is just the start of the replacing you'll probably be doing to get your car to fully restored state. If you love the car, & if you have the money, time & desire, restore the Z. It's a nice car.

Get off the internet, get a job, move out of your parent's basement and stop spending your weekends trashing your mom's car.

Yeah, the crappy V6 transmissions that Honda put into the TL/Accord and other vehicles did have problems.

You'd probably do better having a totally new TSX with a warranty and manual transmission than an aging Z. I don't doubt that the Z is a sweet machine, but 171k is a decent amount of miles. My own Accord has 183k, and little problems are always popping up. Unless you invest a large amount of money into the Z, you'll end up chasing down all kinds of age-related repairs. I've spent probably 3-4 times the value of the '89 Accord in repairs, but spaced over the 14 year life of the car, I think it's been worth it...but that's just me. I think the car has lots of life left, but it's only a 90hp grocery getter, not a speed machine.
