There's about 1.8 million threads on this. But here's your answer.
The Galant is just OK, to actually consider this car over the TSX is crazy, drive both and you'll see why (performance, looks, ect), and the accord is the economical choice. But to me, say your gonna keep the car 5 years, do you want to say you drive an accord or a TSX, seriously, people are always saying something about my car and it just doesn't get old, it's such a nice looking car. An Accord is just that, an Accord, it's normal, boring, ect. But it's a great price, reliable, ect, but just not an Acura TSX.. Just my opinion!

Dude...Get the TSX. I've only had mine for 3 months, but I love this car. Going to work everyday doesn't seem so bad anymore. It's another reason to drive my car. I'm pretty sure I'll feel that way for the length of my lease. To me a car is more than a means of transportation, it's part of my personality. I looked at lots of cars, including the Accord, but nothing flipped my switch like the TSX. The fact that you won't see one everyday is icing on the cake.

This one is mostly a matter of price-tolerance.
The Galant has generally been a lower-end competitor in the compact Sedan wars; competing more with the altima and the sonata and the domestic brands than with the accord or the Camry. In that arena, it was about average; above-average interior finish, decent room, good trunk; good exterior looks albeit in a faux-bimmer style; with a merely average engine offering good performance but below average fuel economy and merely average reliability. All in all, a good buy in the under-$20,000 segment.

Now, for 2004, the Galant is coming in with an all-new version for which there doesn't seem to be much info, yet; just a few pics and blurbs. The car now looks larger and more Altima-ish than bimmer-ish, which probably falls under the "truth-in-advertising" flag. :-)

Unless Mitsubishi has pulled a major coup, the Galant is not likely to offer the TSX much competition; not with a $3-5,000 price differential and an engine tech base a notch behind Honda.

An Accord DX or LX might be a proper comparison for the Galant, but it isn't very likely the engine and transmissions will compare--the last I saw, the Galant featured five-speed manual and 4-speed auto and the V6 ran under 200 hp and 17 Mpg, but that was the 03...

Other likely alternatives to the new Galant would be the Altima, Mazda 6, and Sonata; maybe even the Impala/Malibu/Alero.

Lets just say that Honda is going to be mighty surprised if they lose a lot of serious TSX customers to the Galant.

We never (almost literally never) hear about the Galant on here. I've noticed that there are some cars that I would have thought are competitors of the TSX but which nobody here ever thinks of. The main one is the Camry. I mean, I knew that I thought it was a totally different car, but I didn't know lots of other people thought that too. But the Galant really surprises me, that it never gets mentioned here. I don't remember any other time that someone here said they ever considered the car.

The 04 Galant comes with a 3800cc 230HP V6, putting it into the TSX group is just not right at all. Try Grand Prix or Malibu...LOL

Here's Edmunds' early write-up on the 2004 Galant:
http://www.edmunds.com/future/2004/m....2.mitsubishi*

"The upscale GTS will have a price tag of $26,000.... without the destination charge" puts it right in TSX territory when fully loaded.

Galants used to be good about 10 years ago, they were considered in the Accord/Camry competition, these days Galants are decent cars but about 5 years behind.

Since I have not tried out the newest offering from the 3 diamonds, I might be forced to eat my words

Accord is the more economical choice, you can get a fully loaded Accord for the price of a TSX.

The TSX is the passionate 4 cylinder Accord, its rarer and is more of a driver's car than a family car, though it can of course still be one

Try them all.

Seems like an odd way of saying that the Accord is an economical choice!

The Galant is made by a company which made one of the finest 21" televisions ever. I had one for years. Great picture and performance, all for a good price.
As far as the auto division is concerned, my opinions are best left silent. They just started selling them in Canada, finally, and IMO, their designs are uninspiring. I will give them credit for a much better execution of the Dodge Stealth, but they offer not one model that looks outstanding. BTW - the TSX, viewed about 15 yards away, looking down from 3 parking garage steps, looks absolutely awesome. The front end, for some reason, screams "hawk-like" -I LOVE IT.

Whatever car you get, just don't ever get a Galant, or Mitsubishi in that matter. My last car is a 2002 Galant GTZ, which is top of the line Galant. A whole lotta problem. Numerous rattles, a mystery rattle since 7K miles, short lived tires and brake pads, terrible terrible resale value, a transmission blew at 33K miles, won't start a number of time, etc. etc. And Mitsu HQ's attitude is like "too bad, we can't fix it. You'll have to live with it" WTF!
DON'T EVER BUY A MITSUBISHI!!! NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE DEAL IS!!!!!! NEVER~~~NEVER~~~NEVER~~~!!!!

Oh, add fresh suspension components (bushings, control arms, etc.) every 7K miles onto that list.
Take my advice, don't be silly....

Not that it matters, but there isn't much of a relationship between the auto and electronics companies. They are completely seperate at this point.

I have a neighbor who's had a dead Mitsubishi of some sort decaying in the driveway for a couple of years. Otherwise, the cars have never aroused my interest.

If you want a 4-door and won't drive anything but a manual transmission, buy the TSX.

If you can't or won't drive a manual transmission buy the V6 Accord EX.

They're both excellent cars focused towards different market segments.

Worth it? I think both cars are bargains.

thank you all i have made up my mine to get the tsx. i currently own a 2002 galant and it has done me well since 2001. i will admit though i was kinda disapointed at some of the features it doesn't have. event he 2004 every car in the world is starting to have a nav system and not one mitsubicar has it thats gay. so i guess the tsx is a winner.

So, our full-court press worked.

The car is a winner, even though it isn't for everybody.
But sounds like it's for you. I'm sure you'll love it.

I traded in a 2002 Galant LS (V6) for my TSX so you know where I'm coming from. We had a Mitsubishi Lancer LTD when we lived in the Philippines. It was more like a Galant than the Lancer here in the US. I bought the '02 Galant new and enjoyed the car a lot. It ran like a bunny. But when I saw the TSX it was all over. Now we're a full scale Acura/Honda family.

Even if you CAN 20-inchers, don't. Really. It will hurt all our feelings.

18s? Ideal.
19s? If you MUST.
20s? No. Please.

Good luck and enjoy the TSX.

What leaves a sour taste about Mitsubitchy is that they have teamed up with a manufacturer known for very poor-to-mediocre reliability, namely Daimler-Chryzler--makers of Mercedes, Chryslers, Dodges, and Jeeps.
