Acura Care

Did anyone opt for Acura Care? It's Honda of America's official extended warranty for newly bought Acuras.

Supposedly, if you don't use the this extended part of the warranty, you get a full refund after the extended term expires. However, if you use any part of the extended warranty, you get nothing back.

I'm not sure if it's worth it. My dealer quoted me 100,000 mile coverage that expires in 2010 for just under 2 grand.

Extended warranties are usually ripoffs.

Especially with an Acura/Honda.

I've never owned a Honda that required 2 grand of repairs. Usually it's little things, like a relay switch, a distributor, or the CD player.

Honda's Acura Care warranty prices are negotiable, so it pays to shop around.

For two grand I'd consider it a ripoff, too. But I tried a quote from just ONE hit with a search engine, acuraofmissionviejo.com, for example, quotes an internet price of $1007 for 6 years, 100,000 mile, $0 deductable Acura Care warranty.

At that price it begins to get more interesting.

bob, that sounds like an awesome price. I did get it (don't get the maintenance, remember 1st tune up is 110k, so don't pay a lot for oil changes), but with a $50 ded. for a bit more than that, not too much. Certainly negotiate.

Here's the deal:
They do make money on these, for sure. It depends on how descriminating you are to force them to do work (they like to work if they can pull it off since Acura pays the auto workers) and how you like your odds. If you don't want to be shocked by a $1,500 bill at some point, then buy it now and make sure you're covered. You might have nothing too. I drive my cars pretty hard, so I thought it might be worth it. Here's the other issue. If you plan to sell the TSX in the extended warranty, GET THE WARRANTY! It will dramatically increase the value of your car or just make it easier to sell. Think about whether you'd rather pay $500 more for a car that you know is going to be perfect for 2 more years as a used customer. My 2¢.
