Acura "B" service price quoted..

Hello all,

So, I just called my Acura dealership for a quote on a "B 1" service for my 07 TSX. They quoted me $229. Does that seem really steep? I think that this is mostly inspection stuff, but I was just curious what people were paying for "B 1" services. Also, I am in the IL area.

Thanks much!

I am going to a B1 service soon and I was quoted around that price for my TL. So it looks pretty normal I would think.

I quickly skimmed the RL forums yesterday, and someone was quoted $440ish for the service. lol

B1 should be something you can DIY...oil/filter change with some inspections. Some dealers don't even bother doing the inspections (they'll just skim through it).

626tsx, no, your oil changes are just oil changes. Services include various things, and oil changes are just a small component of it.

will it void our warranties if you decline the full service i.e the bullshiza inspections and just get the oil change?

Remember, dealers are in it for the money. The prices you are being quoted are for a glorified oil change. The dealer has no legal responsibility to follow the manufacturers maintenance schedule. They can also charge whatever their market will bear. I'll bet the folks getting the higher quotes live in a part of the country with higher costs of living. Just follow the Acura schedule in your manual, save proof of the service and your warranty has to be honored. That's the law. "Inspection of brake lines", etc. can find obvious leaks, etc. but rarely gets done until there is a symptom klike brake fade. Take responsibility for your own oversight and figure out what needs to be done, then shop around. A Honda dealer will do an oil change on your TSX for $30-40. That's what I've been doing, I've had no issues with Acura for honoring the warranty (tested a few times), and find it much easier. There's a reason people have renamed the dealer, the "stealer". Go figure.

Wow, I was definitely quoted pretty high for the "B-1" service. I bet that the poster above who stated that the higher quote was the result of the higher cost of living in the dealership area is correct. This dealership is located in a pretty wealthy suburb. I suppose that I should call around to other Acura dealerships and see what they're charging. Do you think if I were to find another Acura dealership, within close proximity to the one that I usually go to (say 30 miles), they would honor the other dealerships lower price?

Thanks much guys!

Fellas, I'm sorry, But I had to reply to this. My Friend works as a service guy for Acura and I just got my B1 check at 10,300K yesterday. All it is an oil change/brake check/fluids/tire rotation. I paid $0.00. Our local Acura Dealership here in Delaware offers a lifetime oil change for any new acura's bought. (They even vacuum and wash your car for free after every oil change ) But to make a long story short, I just put my rims on last week thus the new tires so did not need tire rotation (you can even do this yourself, brakes - you can actually check that yourself and you should definitely know when and if you need new brakes. Fluids, Every man should know how to check the fluids on there cars! There is no way I'm giving a guy $100 - $150 just "to check" my car. Thats my

How much would they bark at you if you just tell them you want an "oil change" when you have an A1 or B1 code? For Hondas, every time you got an oil change they did a 30pt inspection anyway. Basically it's what is done with the B1 checks, I think. If you called and said "how much is an A1 service" and then "how much is JUST an oil change" i bet you get 2 different prices.

Those codes are for idiots who know NOTHING about cars and can just tell the dealer that my car says "B1" and the dealer knows what to do and tells them they did it and they are satisfied.

The "2" code is a real joke, I can change an air filter and certainly can handle removing the glove box to replace/check the cabin filter(thanks to the DIY threads!) As far as check the drive belt goes, i doubt that is worth paying to have them look at a belt and say it looks fine.

Seriously considering calling my Honda dealer that I took my old 98 Accord I traded in for the TSX last month, and having them do the oil changes... they always treated me right and were great. I have an Acura dealer that is 5 minutes from work, I will probably give them a chance.

The B1 service is the human equivalent of a physical exam (minus the oil change =P). It's mostly to check that there's nothing abnormal going on with your wear-and-tear components... just a quick check-up.

I just had the B1 service performed on my '07 a week and a half ago. I have neither the time, space, nor the tools, so I went to a Honda/Acura shop near work (after reading some of their reviews online) and they charged me $49. I didn't even bother asking the dealer for a quote as I was sure it'd be in triple digits and after reading some of the responses, I now see how I right I was and how ridiculously overpriced it is.

Always remember to check the details of the service that the car is requesting. You can find this in the manual pretty easily. It makes it MUCH easier to say no to the dealer after you've requested a quote for the same service elsewhere.
