Was the 92-96 Prelude fast? Other comments too.
I was on my way to work today and to the next of me was a raced out 92-96 prelude with vtec stickers and powered by honda everywhere and a bigger exhaust than mine with clear tails.
I let him get ahead of me because I don't care, but how fast was that 92-96 preludes? Were they faster than the 97-01 ones and quicker than the TSX?
I don't know about you, but when I was younger I thought that was rad to see a modded Honda, but now as I gotten older, I think it's pretty stupid and what's the point? The preludes resale value is probably less than what he put in the car. Also the same thing is done to a 110hp Civic, why? These types of people have given the Honda/Acura a bad image and rep from non Acura/Honda drivers.

If I recall correctly, the 93 to 96 SR-V was quick, as fast if not faster than the 97 to 02's.
If memory serves my correctly, the 1995 edition of Motor Trend had the SR-V doing 0-60 in under 7 sec and the 1/4 mile in under 15, which was rare for a 97-02 Lude. The 93-96's were far lighter I think.
I was really close to buying a 96 back in 00.
Only thing not that great was the interior.

I don't know about Canada, but in U.S. there were 3 versions of 4th gen Prelude.
Prelude S (92-96): 2.2L non-VTEC SOHC engine producing 135hp or so. Definitely not quick compared to the TSX.
Prelude Si/Si 4WS (92-96): 2.3L non-VTEC DOHC engine producing 160hp. Decent power, pretty lightweight, so it could be as fast as the TSX if the Prelude driver is good.
Prelude VTEC (93-96): 2.2L VTEC DOHC engine producing 190hp. Car weighs about 2800 lbs. On paper, it should be quicker than the TSX.
I think there was a Special Edition of the Prelude, but it's basically the same as the Si with some extra features.

Anybody remember the FIRST gen Prelude?
My mom's friend had a '79 and I thought it was the coolest car on earth. It was the first sunroof/moonroof I'd ever seen. The interior was so funky (good funky, though) too: the tach and speedo overlapped and it had the weirdest radio. You tuned it with a dial on the right edge of the instrument cluster.
We all thought it was like a poor man's Mercedes. I wish I could find pictures. Honda was definitely not playing it safe then.

my cousin has a 94 Prelude, the VTEC 190hp version...he's had it for some years now, and it's got 130+k miles on it...needless to say, it's got quite a few problems with it by now (for example, just a month or so ago, it just literally broke down, when he pushed the gas in, it wouldnt accelerate, so it's pretty bad now). However, despite these problems that he has with it righ tnow, it used to run pretty well, and i'm quite sure that, with equal skilled drivers, the prelude would beat a tsx...0-60, and quarter mile. after that, i'm not sure. and on a related note, my cousin is wanting to sell his prelude (after he gets it fixed up) for about 5k...he said that preludes actaully have pretty unreal resale value. he's now looking at some other cars, possibly the mazda3s or mazda6s, or maybe altima.
