5AT: is the pedal placement wrong?
I've been driving my 5AT for a couple of months now, and I notice that when I put my right foot on the gas and rest my left foot on the dead pedal, which is where my feet spend 90% of the time, I'm sitting kind of crooked, facing the left a bit more.
Just for fun I tried driving with one foot over the gas and my left foot over the brake and where the clutch would be, and it seemed a lot more natural. It's kind of bugging me now, it seems like in the auto you either have to make your butt comfortable, or your feet. But not both. Anyone else have that problem?

I think you are experiencing this because the accelerator pedal is hooked up to the floor of the cabin. Most cars have a pedal that either moves entirely back, or is tied at the top. I agree it sometimes feels unconfortable. I often feel like bringing my left foot closer to the seat; but find it hampers breaking in traffic.

I have. It's just not comfortable putting my left foot on the dead pedal. I tried to slide closer to the steering wheel but then my knee would touch the bottom of the wheel. One of these days I'm gonna apend something to the dead pedal to make it stick out a bit more.

I agree 100% Belzebutt and I have the MT, sorry fellow "MT snobs". I beleive the gas pedal and dead pedal would be in identical positions regardless if it's an AT or MT, although I could be wrong.
Regardless, I absolutley love this car but this has become extremely annoying to me as well, especially on long trips. I initially thought it was because I'm somewhat a taller person 6'1", but then came to the conclusion it was the angle/placement of the dead pedal.
For me raising the front bottom of the seat substantially, while keeping the rear bottom low helped a little. But this puts you in a rather odd postion for driving, especially MT.
Although I'm slowly starting to realize many advantages to driving MT in this "raised knee" position, but that's a discussion for a different thread.
I think fatcat's onto something with his suggestion.

I first realized this when I took a good look at my steering wheel and realized... why am I not facing it dead center? It seems like the dead pedal wants me to orient myself leftwards a bit.
I'm going to try playing with the seat a bit and see if I can find a more comfortable position.
In any case, I don't think it's something most people would notice... I switched from a MT car recently too I thought that had something to do with it.

How tall are you? I'm 5'7 and Ive noticed that I sit kinda akward when I'm using the dead pedal. I do sit a bit further away from the pedals but the dead pedal seems a lot farther than other cars I have driven.

well...the dead pedal sits a tad bit further away than the brake/accel pedals. So you would have your left leg extended out a bit more than your right...maybe that has something to do with it?
