50% Tint on the front doors
It's been really hot where I live in Cali lately. We've been hitting 100+ degree days. And I'm thinking about tinting my front windows to help keep me cooler. I'll get about 45% heat rejection from the 50% tint I'm looking at.
Does anyone here have any experiences with 50% tint?
How dark is it? You guys think I would get pulled over in Cali with it?
If any has any pics...please post them. Thanks!

not sure about north CA, but around LA. u can only get tint in the rear 2 passenger windows and the rear windshield. no tint allowed at all at the 2 front, drive/passenger side window, none at all. but people do it anyway, unless cop is really raelly anal at you, u should be ok. however, they can always give you a ticket to take it off. and those ticket has been getting more and more expensive. so its really up to you. i see tons of cars around with it, i can care less myself..

Kenny,
California law says you can't have any more than 70% on the front windows.
http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html
you'd be taking a chance of getting pulled over.

Thanks for the info guys. I know that 70% isn't legal here in Cali, but I was just wondering how dark it actually looks in person.
I normally wouldn't consider it, but it's just been so damn hot lately! Yesterday when I got in my car after work, about 7:30 pm or so, my thermostat read 104 degrees!
You guys have it easy down there in SoCal!

I've read, and I agree, that if you have a lighter color interior then the tint on your windows looks lighter. So, if you have the Parchement interior then you might be able to get away with 50% tint and not draw too much attention to it.

i dont know how you guys can handle it without tint. It sucks the laws are strict over there in cali. Whats the reasoning for the law about not tinting the drive/pass windows? Seems like it can get pretty hot over there. I thought my 20% wasnt dark enough so i took it off and put 5% all around. Good ol' florida sun.

I love tints
it is illegal period to have tints on the front windows in IL but a lot of people still have them. I would say anything under 35% is risky. I have 35% on front 2 and 20% on rear 3 and I have never been pulled over (had the car for 6 months) and I have a black car with dark interior so it makes it look even darker. I think the contrast in my two tints helps too.
What do you have on your rear windows already Kenny?
The 35% to me really isnt dark at all, especially when its sunny. Kenny, get the 50%. It really isnt dark at all. The only time I think my 35% looks dark is at night and when its really gloomy out. OH, my roomie has 20% around her entire Yukon and she has only been pulled over once and had the car for 6 months. Plus she has 22" chrome rims on there so they maybe thought she wasnt a white girl (she just got a warning I love being a woman

I had 50% on my entire front windshield on my Accord and never once got pulled over for it. It is barely noticable, but does help block the sun's heat. Chances of getting a ticket are slim, and usually they just give you a fix it ticket and you can remove it, show up to the court and they usually just take your word for it and throw the ticket out. I had 4 of these for 5% on my front doors and they only checked once to see if I actually removed it, never cost me a cent, other than to tint the windows.

Thanks for all of the input guys...and girl
I have quartz interior so it's pretty light on the inside. I'm almost positive I'm gonna do this. Just not sure what I wanna do first. I'm debating between a lip spoiler and this front tint. With all of this hot weather I'm thinking that I need to do the tint first!

50% really isn't that dark at all. It may not be THAT Much different from the 70% IMHO. i haven't done a comparison in person but i bet the difference isn't that great. If your california polics aren't that strict, you can probably get away with it. But i've heard the tickets out in Cali are expensive.

Or maybe of the car in the sunlight?
Thx.

In california ..
-Tint in the back are legal at any %.
-Tint in the front are legal only if the tint film is CLEAR (no color dye) because front windows are already tinted at factory to legal limits.

Well I picked up the car this afternoon and I'm pretty happy with the job they did with the tint. I didn't want to go too dark because I wanted to keep the classy look shall we say, and its illegal here. Anyway these pics are 50% front and 35% back side windows and back window. I was a little worried about the difference but it is very slight. Here are the pics anyway, some close up and some further away and I tried to get under a tree in my backyard to get some sort of a shaded look. Overall it was a partially sunny/cloudy day today when I took the pics and my interior is ebony.

In my opinion its not bad looking at all, it maintains the classy or elegant side of the sport sedan, yes blacked out windows are cool , and if I was 20 again I would probably get them, but I'm not so I went for the more conservative tint

TSX.Fury -- looks great! Really like your lower skirts too!
Hey, I'm new to this forum -- and to Acuras. I just picked up a new carbon/ebony. I'd like to tint the windows as well. Do you guys have the tint shop remove 3rd brake light in the window. remove it yourself or do you have them cut out the tint around it? The tint shop said they normally trim around them, but I think that will look bad on this car if not done perfectly. The TSX's light doesn't sit tightly against the rear glass as some cars do.
Also to comment on the tints, with my last car, a silver Saab 9-5 with black interior, I asked to the shop to match my wife's car which has 50% on the sides and 35% in back. They installed 35% on the sides and 20% on the back (thanks guys for not listening to me). Around here where few cars are tinted it looked REALLY dark -- as in a ticket magnet. It was hard to see into the car, especially the rear seat. It did look pretty cool however, but at night the 35% was a bit harder to see out. I went back to the shop and had them lighten the doors to 50%. I didn't mind the 50/35% combo on the sides, but I prefer the tint the same even though that means the back is a bit light. I'm either going with 50% sides and 35 or 20% on the back.
Speaking of getting pulled over, you guys get pulled over for not having a front plate? It looks soooo much better without one. I'll start a new post on that I think.
