4000k miles and new tranny!

Hey all just wanted to let you know of my problem!

Used this site to do research before buying my cg/at tsx. Read info on tranny "recall" actually it was a mandated inspection. I waited to buy my car until I found one outside of the vin range affected. There have been numerous threads about this.

Recently I brought my car in for service because of the alignment. Everything else on the car was fine from what I thought. I did notice a little whinning noise coming from the engine when I pressed on the gas, but really was not bothered by this.

I decided to tell the service department to check out the alignment and the noise because it was in the shop anyway. I got a call the next day that the alignment was fixed and that they were waiting on a "part" to fix the engine whinning or whirring sound.

After wating another day I called them and asked what the hold up was. They said the "part" they were waiting on was a new transmission and that it would be 6 days til they get a new one. I thought wtf?

First off my tranny had no problems I was aware of. No slipping, leaking, or anything. It was smooth and seemed fine. It was out of the affected vin range that I have seen posted on various sites. When asked how they discovered the problem they diagnosed it by putting various transmission sensors on the unit and driving the car. Another tranny bites the dust, so be careful for the rest of you.

I will keep you posted on the outcome and see if I can get an actual answer on what was wrong with the transmission. Crazy! I tell ya.

But seriously, I'm plesantly surprised to hear that a dealer would be so proactive. I would have thought they'd just leave it alone. The dealer could have just said that's normal and let you eat the tranny bill after the warranty ran out and the tranny blew.

the same thing just happened to my dads minivan. Whirring noise that came and went when accelerating. Took it in and they replaced the tranny.

TJ,

I'd print out the recall info since it says what VINs are affected and shove it in their face of those idiots. A well written letter to the dealer owner and/or Acura NA would stick it to these people who should know everything about your car and possible problems with it!

Yes, the tranny issue is with the AT. There have been some issues with the clutch in the MT but I would chalk most of those up to "non-normal" driving.

Why would you do that? I haven't heard of any problems but even if there were problems I wouldn't change it if everything was working fine.

they get paid by acura for the tranny anyways, and besides if a tranny needs to be replaced at 4000 miles, its not gonna hold up til after the powertrain warranty is over.

I don't see any letters nor prints out about this regard direct from Acura, but I did print out the tread that Collin gave us the VIN range and showed them. What they did was login Acura data base site which only accessible to dealer, and show me that their's no recall on my car.. I didn't know what else to do.

My VIN is CO27****, guess I have to wait 'till it smoke..

Create an account on the Acura Owners Link (http://www.acura.com/owning/owning_index.asp). Here you can register your VIN and 'suppposedly' can check to see the status of any recalls that may affect your car. I'm MT so nothing has shown up on mine but that's one way you might be able to get the proof.

I don't know, I think 4,000,000 miles is pretty good for a tranny!
