30,000 mile service?

Almost time for the 30k service for my '04 5AT (haven't done anything except oil change and alignment, and 2 sets of new front rotors, and of course the '04 rattles), what's in it?

I asked my dealer and he said they'll replace transmission fluid, replace air filter, and the usual stuff... but the thing is like $450 He didn't have the full list cause someone has it or something..

Does this sound reasonable? For those of you who has done it, what did they do besides a bunch of 'visual inspections'?

we're on the same boat. i'm at 26k miles and curry acura wants $450, here is 'their' list,

- rotate tires
- full 'visual inspection' (PS, brakes, cv and axle boots/tie rods, suspension, cooling, exhaust, fuel system, hoses, tranny)
- replace spark plugs, replace wipers, replace fuel filter, replace air filter
- replace tranny fluid, replace brake fuild
- check alignment, drive belts, timing, idle, valve clearance, throttle opening, a/c, egr valve
- lube hinges
- road test

i can do all this myself w/o problems, BUT...i do want that 30k stamp since i did work on the car from when i bought it...what to do...

Right, I was going to mention that, since the owner link schedule did not mention anything about tranny fluid change...

mg7726, that list sounds like what my dealer was talking about.... Well, at least they do replace a bunch of things which is probably worth $200 including labor.... I just don't buy those 'visual inspection' stuff...

trust me it's not 'FREE' - how do you think the BMW is overpriced to begin with??

imo, you paid for the 'FREE' in advance

If they're doing all of that for $450, then that's a great deal, especially if they're including the plugs, brake fluid, and fuel filter.

But most of that stuff is unnecessary. The only items you really need to replace are the engine air filter, cabin air filter, oil/filter, transmission fluid (well, I recommend it).

Take a copy of the 30,000 mile maintenance schedule and ask a private mechanic how much they will charge for it. $450 is a huge ripoff IMO.

You can print it right off ownerlink and it might even be in the manual in your car.

My car is coming to 30k also as it has 28.5k miles on it now. Although I got it from a dealer with around 27k miles on it and they had a sticker on the window that does next service is at 31k. I guess this is when I make a quick stop at the moda_way service shop to get this done :-P

I think that's actually true :rofl...

So....after looking at the posted schedule in the FAQ (which I think is the same as the one I read on owner's link), I'm kind of confused (same reason why I started the thread) since it seems the dealer's schedule and the general owner's link/FAQ/owner's manual schedule is inconsistent.....

Which one should I follow??

Follow the schedule that's in your owners manual. Some dealers will also follow the same schedule while others will add "recommended" services or reduced intervals. That's just pure profit for them if they can get you do do unnecessary maintenance.

$450 reminds me of owning German cars. Just to touch the stupid thing was $100. I'm hoping the Acura dealers won't be that bad but they're looking like they might be.

I am at 41k now.....at 10k, 20k, 30k I just did the oil change and things on the list that said replacement. I regularly rotate my own tires and have them inspect my brakes at no cost. Way below $450 what Montclair, Curry, and Paragon wanted for each service.

Inspect drive belt

I can handle the oil, pollen, and air filter changes, but what's involved in "Inspect drive belt"?

By "stamp" I assume you mean something to prove you did the service to protect your warranty? it does not matter where the service is done, in fact imho you'd have to be really stupid to pay those kinds of prices. Google the "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act".

Change the neccessary fluids at the dealership, replace the spark plugs, air filter, and wipers yourself. And have a local mechanic thoroughly "inspect" your 30k vehicle during the next oil change. You'll probably pay less than $125 for the fluid changes.

the stamp is for when i sell it private party in a year or two. i ended up doing the 30k service myself, took the $450 i saved and bought new potenza re750s

service

Ask your dealer about "internet coupons" or just be a dick like me. I was pissed
that they had to order a radio for me "Lights out problem" and they didn't have
it for 6 days. They discounted my service to $375 and gave me a couple of oil
changes for free also. The internet coupon mentioned above is a part of ownerlink
email service.

I just turned 30k.. had a video from my camera from 29999 to 30000.. haha was pretty exciting..

I just did oil change and tire rotation... ran out of atf last weekend, did 3 last weekend, was going to do another 3 today..

I checked my radiator fluid last weekend.. was just going to do a drain and filled, Ill wait till next week when i get another case of atf...

whats everyone's feeling on fuel filters ? i did it once for my original car, that was 4 cars ago.. didn't even notice anything.. wasn't even sure if it really has to been done..

does anyone know what lube chassis means.. or where to lube what ?

any idea what the "stamp" look like ? i figure we'll go make our own and ill stamp it for everyone hahahaha

I just had my ripoff, 30K mile service. $155 in parts, but they charged $525. I"m pretty sure I can find a mechanic that can do just as good or better job for $370 in labor.

I just had mine done today at the dealership for $302 (including 10% coupon). Not too bad, but of course still overpriced. But I trust this place and they are always very nice. They even gave me a loaner to use for the day even though I didn't request one. Thought I'd just wait, but they had one there so what the hell. I went to the mall instead of sitting in the waiting room.

doing it yourself

Today I changed the oil+filter (both Mobil 1), and the pollen and air filters (OEM), and rotated the tires&checked the brake pads and CV boots. Cost of materials was ~$80.

Now I just have to "inspect the drive belt"; but I don't know how.

Anyone know what's involved in this (or can send me to a website with a TSX service manual)?

Thanks.

There are a number of threads on this. I just ordered mine from http://www.fleetfilter.com/. A couple of members have said good things about their filters so we'll see.

ok.. I see several reply wanting to change the spark plug..

Im under the impression that new plug is not necessary until 110k miles.. perhaps a little before that, but definitely not necessary at 30K miles...

is it a new requirement? or just personal preference?

Do you mean the Maintanence Minder message? if so Go the manual :tomater: and go to the Maintanence Minder chapter. Reseting is in the first few pages. HINT: it involved the INFO "i" button and the RESET button. I believe it's three clicks ( I think it's hold down RESET >select with "i" and click RESET again..I think) ...takes about 30 seconds. what's that acronym for Read the phraken Manual?

As far as rotating tires... I think I need to buy new tires.

im at nearly 68k. so far all i've done myself is oil changes, brakes, air/cabin filter, wipers, rotate tires and topped off fluids. the only thing i paid for at the dealer was a trans fluid flush at around 45k (fluid looked kinda brown).

still runs like new.

Seriously....unless you're driving an F1 race car I see no reason to change the spark plugs at 30K on any passenger car.
