Question 2008 TSX Headrests

I just bought my 2008 TSX in the beginning of April and now that I have been in it for a little over a month, I am finding the front headrests to be uncomfortable. The issue is that the headrest is terribly far away from my head when driving (about 6 inches) and however, I position the seat, doesn't make a difference.

Please keep in mind this qualm is due to the fact that I am coming from a Volvo which has amazing seats and headrests IMO.

Is anyone aware of aftermarket headrests or modifications that can be made to the current ones? I was thinking of taking a ride up to the dealer to see if the 09 headrests are any different.

Thanks!

The 09 TSX head rests will be different. They have the active head restraint feature. They probably won't work in your car.

One thing to take note of is that calling them headrests is a little off. You aren't supposed to rest your head on them while driving. They are strictly for protecting your head in certain types of accidents.

Also, I find that alot of my customers have them positioned all wrong or not at all. General rule of thumb is middle of ear/middle of head restraint.

I have to agree with jmathew. Acura even lists them as headrests, but I think that's besides the point. Once you've been in a car with a headrest that actually serves its purpose of resting your head it's hard to go back, which is why I was wondering about any aftermarket or other headrests from an acura vehicle that may fit. I saw a post from back on 2005 about RL headrests, but I didn't see a true conclusion on that one.

I would guess it's a euphemism for "anti-whiplash devices".

I agree, you aren't meant to rest your head on these things for long periods of time while driving... that could lead to you falling asleep, which would be bad. They are there for protection in certain types of accidents to prevent excessive head motion.

wow... I can't even get my head to stay on the "headrest" without actually THINKING of myself putting my head on it. My head is usually off of it when I'm normally driving (sitting upright) and just lean my head back when I'm at a stoplight. I don't feel secure/comfortable driving around with my head resting on the "headrest"...

Zyuan, I agree 110%. In the TSX I couldn't imagine using the headrest to rest my head as it's not designed that way. As everyone else said it's not designed for comfort in anyway, unlike some other manufacturers which is what led me to question of anyone knowing of aftermarket headrests available for the TSX.

I don't, but I'm interested in what you find out. Do they have these in headrest only form?

...sorry, I just couldn't resist... I am interested in actual results...

Even though in some cars you can comfortably rest your head on the headrests, their true purpose, in accordance with federal standards, is to help prevent injuries in certain types of collisions. So, as long as you can position the headrestraints the appropriate distance from your head, and at the appropriate level, there's nothing faulty or wrong with the car.

And another thing: you should *never* use any headrests but the OEM ones. Even though you might find some comfortable ones that fit your car, the OEM headrests are the only ones that will do an appropriate job protecting your neck because they were designed from the ground up to do just that with your car's specific geometry.
