2008 tsx brake upgrade
#41
I have a 2004 TSX with only around 60K miles(!) on it. First replaced my brake pads and resurfaced rotors around 30K at dealer because of very noticeable shaking. It was okay for a while but I had shaking problems again around 50K. I recently replaced my front rotors and pads to brakemotive (powerstop brands) slotted/drilled ones by myself and the brakes now feel much better. Also tried to replace my rear rotors+pads but the dang screws won't come off even with manual impact drivers.

I had trouble with my rotors too (went through 3 bits for the impact driver). Finally tried what I should have done in the first place. Just place a well fitting Phillips head screwdriver on the screw and hit it hard with a hammer (the heavier the hammer the better). This will usually break the corrosion and the impact driver can then break the screw loose.

I would suggest poking through some of the new HT-Spec brake packages on our site to find a kit that is going to work well for your needs!

Definitely go for it. Anyone can of course spend big money on rotors and pads if they want to, but I don't think you have to. The R1 Concept set (4 rotors and all pads) ran me less that $200 I think when I changed everything (2 1/2 years ago and almost 60K miles). Still going strong. I bought that set for the same reason you're interested in the Brakemotive; word of mouth. More reliable than any sales pitch (I think).

Eh? Hatin'? I just told you to NOT to buy rotors AT ALL. How is that telling you to get "overpriced brakes?"
I just say, if you are going to get cheap stuff, you might as well keep them stock because they are not better at all. If you are getting shaking and want better stopping, get new pads and call it a day!

I can nearly guarantee any stopping benefit you saw in your upgrade was due to the new pads. The rotors don't make much of a difference in the stopping or life for your brakes unless they are a larger diameter than stock. Likewise, 9/10 of the time, the rotors are not causing shakes or shimmies at all.
I don't have a sales pitch. I have information. The word of mouth on Racingbrake goes deeper than just about any other brand on Acurazine, and that is because they are the best rotors you can buy. But no, they are not critical for people to buy if they just want the car to work as it should have stock. Which is why our Stage 0 brake kit does not even include rotors at all! You don't need new rotors unless you are using aggressive pads and drive the car relatively hard, even if you are getting shakes in the steering wheel. Changing to better pads and rebedding will solve most all shaking problems without replacing or resurfacing rotors.
If you are looking for a certain look and don't want to spend a lot on it, that is a different story. I can totally see why you guys would think Racingbrake was an overpriced. Because you don't know what makes them the best, and you don't care.

it's a car-drive it
Yes I do lots of highway (freeway as you call it) driving. I also do not race up to red lights and jam on the brakes. I travel from NC to NJ and back every few weeks. Traveling on 95 thru the Washington DC area can be havic to a car.

It's probably hard for me to tell since I haven't driven alot on them yet. They feel better than oem, I'm just not sure of how much. I really feel the difference when braking from 30mph and above.
I need to do some higher speed bedding in, I mostly did hard 45-30mph, 8x or so. I did 2 hard 60 to 40 mph stops. I didn't look for smoke.

That was the thinking behind the stage 0 kit. The ET300 might have done it for you but the 500 are great for more braking power!
