2006 TSX vs Subaru Legacy GT?
#42
Having driven both the TSX and Legacy GT limited each a few times, here are my thoughts.
Prices quoted: 2006 TSX, w/o NAV $26,578
2006 Legacy GT Ltd. $25,500
Interior quality on the TSX seemed better in terms of fit/finish and materials. Power seats were better too. Legacy did not have a telescoping steering wheel.
NVH - lower in TSX
Ability to take corners - Legacy slightly better given AWD and general center of gravity.
MPG - definitely better in the TSX
Traction and ESC - only on the TSX
Both are good cars, but it really depends on what you are looking for. The turbo is a kick in the pants, but VTEC is really fun too. If you have to have AWD, the Legacy is the way to go. IMO, the TSX is a better all rounder.

If you want a mix of both go with a european car. A Volvo S40 is a hit with the ladies in the San Diego area. Seen my friend get plenty of compliments. Has been to the shop twice, both times for oil changes. Pretty reliable. He got his with the premium audio, premium package, xenons and T5 (220hp turbo, damn fast), and DSTC for about 26k plus tax. Not bad considering the sticker was 32k. If you can negotiate well, then u can get a great deal on the volvo. In addition, the milage is amazing, im jelous, 35 mpg on the highway @ 75mph.

I've actually taken trips in both, and hands down the S40 is much more comfortable for a long ride. Both have the same amount of plastic. You really have to drop the stereotypes of volvo and take it for a test drive with a clear head. The S40 does have more rear seat space than the tsx, and the front seat is about the same. Though the leather quality in the volvo is better. Take the car for a test drive, and floor it, see how REAL torque feels.

I have driven the Volvo. It didn't impress me at all. All the torque in the world doesn't mean a whole lot when mated to that crappy gear box and atrocious clutch. I'm sorry but the overall driving experience means more to me than just having torque.
And you still didn't answer my question. Wanna take a guess as to why the Volvo is selling for $6k under MSRP?
Between the Volvo and the Legacy GT, I'd take the Legacy any day. Between the Legacy and the TSX, I'd take the TSX.

I suggest you don't start assuming the members in here DON'T know anything about European cars....many have come or comparison shopped from Bimmers, Audis, VWs, let alone swedish makes.

this thread popped up on the main page. I had to log in.
they're both pretty good cars BTW. just depends on your priorities. I wanted to go up to the mountain 30+ times this year... and I wanted to get there fast.

The gearbox was quite nice on his, unless u drove some other gearbox on the S40. The reason why they are discounting on the MSRP is because its Model Year end for them, and the new ones will start coming in next month (OSD). The torque is pretty smooth from 1500 rpm on, and its a lot more agile than the TSX. The brakes are leagues ahead of the LGT and the TSX. I know several people who have had TSX and Volvo's, and reliability has been about the same. I have driven the TSX and there is a serious difference in power between the S40, and the LGT

bumping this thread simply because i enjoy reading the comparison between the two.
the tsx, 2.5gt and spec.b have remained relatively unchanged. but, there is a 3.0r limited which i'm curious about.
any updated feedback from owners of any of these subaru's?

For about 8 months, we owned both an '06 TSX and '07 GT. If you read further back in this thread, you'll see that I was down to the TSX and GT, and decided on the TSX. Only a few months later, my wife's car died, so we got the GT.
To be honest, the TSX got old fast... Although I loved the handling, but the lack of torque, rough ride, and constant alignment problems (it was back to the dealer 4 times in a year) wore me out. No, I don't think mine was a lemon, but I do notice alignment problems more than most people.
I ended up trading it in for an '07 Altima 3.5 SL (270 hp, 258 torque). I didn't like the '06 Altima that was out when I was shopping the TSX and GT, but the 07 is a whole new model that really surprised me. Though many of you will scoff, I like it better than the TSX. Much more power, better nav/bluetooth/xm, quieter, softer ride, love the CVT transmission, and the gas mileage is about the same despite much more power. I managed to get 25k in trade on the TSX, a better interest rate, and the Nissan VPP program where I work got me the Altima at a much lower payment.
Meanwhile, we still have the GT and I do enjoy driving it on weekends. I still don't like the seat back, and the road noise is on the high side, but man... that thing can fly, and has a good balance between handling and road comfort. Not the best choice for a commuter car, but having owned both, I would give the GT the edge over the TSX.

Dude, are you serious right now?? Wow.. nothing against infinity accept its a nissan product and they have no build quality using horsepower as their only selling point, but the lgt can easily match that car in most any comparison accept for maybe gadjets.oh yeah, the subi is thousands less. Unless you really wanna blow extra cash

Since its back though and if anyone cares, here is an updated comparo that was done late last summer between the newer models that puts them neck and neck.

We've got an '07 TSX and an '05 WRX, so we have a happy car home.
Legacy's have always been too big for me anyway. Interesting to hear how close they are now, well, if you've got the new v6...
