RL price outrageous

If you take a Can $ at .80 and a US price of $49,000, the Can. price of the new RL should be $60400. I think the actual MSRP is $64900 or so. I know that these companies hedge currencies to avoid large losses due to fluctuations in currencies, but Honda seemed to have priced the RL really high versus both the previous car and the US current car. It is, however, pretty well priced compared to the ugly 5-series.

the MSRP for 05 RL is $69500 in Canada, thats 15k more than the 04 RL.

In Ontario you are going to pay around $80k after taxes & fees. OUCH...

So far I have seen 2 of them on the road in Toronto.

Never thought of the taxes. 80K = Ouch. They're going to have to fight tooth and nail to lure MB, BMW, Lexus buyers away. I'm a big Honda fan, but I think my 80K would be going to the germans.

Acura's website implies that there will a charge for the AT, but that could mean nothing:

Personally, I tend to think that what you have heard is more accurate. The market is so tight right now that I can't imagine Acura unloading a big price increase.

Anyway, I'll be on the road for much of next week, so happy weekend to everybody.

RL vs the germans eh?

I found some 04 prices for the german mid-sizes(all MSRPs):

A62.7T: 61,520
4.2: 67,390
530i: 66,500
545i: 77,770
E320 4matic: 75,300
E500 4matic: 86,550

my money still goes to the RL since it has basically no options to add on.

Too bad our RL doesn't have the two power 10-way front seats and 20GB HDD navi like the JDM Honda Legend already have.

My theory is this. If I can afford $69,995 car then I can easily afford $79,995. If not then I have no business even looking a $69,995 car. The RL will have its hands full at $69,995.

Thats true, anyone who can afford a 70k car should be able to afford a 80k car as well.

According to Acura in Markham, they are selling the RLs pretty well. I guess Honda is doing just fine.

Ya, and a salesman at Number 7 Honda also told me 03 Civic SiR's were also selling "extremly" well when there were 8 of them on the lot.

I'm not doubting the RL will do well, I'm just saying I'd look long at hard at my other options in the 70 to 90K range. ( Wish I had that problem )

The other thing with the RL pricing is the $25k gap over the TL-Nav. imho, that's a huge price jump, and too much to pay for 30 hp, SH-AWD and some more lux. Same brand, same # of cylinders. I assume the nav traffic overlay doesn't work in Canada.

OMG~! I bought mine 04 this July and the salesman told me the same model (auto) with Navi is about $4000 Cdn more. And the whole time I though he was just trying to sell me the 04 by jacking up the price for 05. I felt bad now cuz I called him a liar in my head!

$36,100 is including the $1,200 freight charge..MSRP is actually $34,900 for the 2005. I was quoted another $1,550 for the auto tranny in Ontario . Navi is another $3,300

The $100 increase on the base model is consistent with what I heard from the salesman at Erin Mills. Freight will go to 1200. Auto is extra, but he was not sure how much.

Regarding Canada car prices vs US, we always overpay on higher priced cars. As soon as they get over 45k the price difference spreads. Take a look at the RL (9K more) or any other high end car, MB, S2000, BMW, Corvettes, Cadillacs. All much more expensive here and we are fools to pay it. Might as well go to the US and import the car.

How about NSX in Canada? $142,000 MSRP!!! No wonder they sold just 5(?) of them in Canada last year.

I wonder how much the 05 NSX is.

I hope that's true...otherwise, I'd have to call all the current Canadian TSX owners a bunch of bastards for telling their salespeople "Ya know, I'd *easily* have paid $1200 more for this baby!!"

So, maybe my dream isn't totally gone. I think I'm going to go get a carscostcanada invoice price for the current 2004, and then do a comparison when I pull one for the 2005 (unless of course, I'm too late to get the 2004 one).

Freight was $900 last year, so that's a net increase of $400 for MT, but over $2k for AT.

I talked to my dealer yesterday (Camco in Ottawa). He said the 6MT price is unchanged, the 5AT is now $1300 extra, and the price of the 5AT with navi is now $39,400. He showed me the price sheet where he was reading that off. Also, freight/PDI is now up by $100.

I sat down in the new RL too, it's pretty nice. It didn't have power though, so I couldn't go ooh/aah at the guages and navi screen.

I've been told $39,500 CDN will be the list on the 05 TSX Auto/Navi.

lurching towards $45k with tax !

The auto versions Navi or No, will be $1200CDN more than the 6-speed.

at the $69.5k RL shows, Canadian Pricing seems to seems moving in a direction opposite the US.

Why this is I don't know. Canadians have less money than Americans so I don't know why you would sell a "more expensive" featured version of your top model here. Still few cars avail. with capable Navi here so maybe that's a factor.

Maybe it's a Yen thing. Models made in N.A., such as EL(Alliston) and TL(Ohio) seem to be holding the line on pricing. Maybe they just think the Canadian economy is doing so well we will be ready to loosen our wallets.

Canadians are generally pretty tightfisted so I personally think it will backfire.

Yup, the RL is too much IMO, but I'm hardly their target market so we'll see.

Navi or not, I would not pay close to 45K for a TSX. The Navi should be a $2k option in Canada to hell with exchange.

If you find out the price on a TSX from carcostcanada.com can you (or anyone else) post that cost?

Thanks

Only know invoice for 04's. You can probly add $2100 to get the 05 Auto/Navi invoice price. $1500 for the Nav and another $600 for the Auto since its now extra.

It has nothing to do with exchange rate. You can buy a fully loaded Euro-R for $35,500(today's rate). Honda Canada decides the pricing, simple as that.

Cars4U.com is now listing the 05's, so these numbers are probably the official Canadian prices. So the 6MT is only going up $100, and the auto is going up by $1300! Navi is a $3300 option.

2005 Acura TSX Sedan Automatic MSRP: $36,100
2005 Acura TSX Sedan Automatic Navigation MSRP: $39,400
2005 Acura TSX Sedan Manual MSRP: $34,900
2005 Acura TSX Sedan Manual Navigation MSRP: $38,200

By the time your dome paying taxes, tariffs etc, you'll have spent far more than it would have cost you in Canada, not to mention you get no warranty.
