i dont think it had voice activation =/
you'd have to buy the maplights from an 06+ ?
since they all have HFL the mic is already there.
you could do and 04-05 navi conversion

then just change out the navi unit (the dvd part in the trunk) with and 06
and you'll have the speed of an 06 =)

I think the 04' had voice activation for the navi models but none for the non-navi since there was no bluetooth integration back then. I remember seeing the voice activation buttons on the navi models...can anyone confirm this?

I was about to pick up a SSM non-navi and then I remember people doing the conversions and I was afraid I'd be tempted to do this so I ended up getting a PWP with navi. Although I did end up paying alot more than you for it. I give you props for taking this project on. I would have done the same too if mine didn't have navi

hey I got a question, I saw that on your nav unit it looks like there is a CD changer attached to it, is this true. I have like 2 CD's that are badly jammed in my CD changer and it can't be repaired so I just want to get a new one. do I have to get a whole new nav unit or just a separate CD changer?

i think just another changer....
i have one..
the easiest way to check is if u can order it in pieces. www.acuraoemparts.com

personally tho. if i was you.. i'd just buy my musiclink cable that i'll sell.. lol or a dice kit if u have an 05+.. and use ur ipod.. then you'll still have 5 avail cd slots.. that u most likely wont even use. lol

yeah I have the Dice set-up, but was thinking if I were to resell that the messed up CD changer would lower the value

FML.... i asked the people at the dealership if a non- navi to navi conversion was possible.... NOOO! is what they said... i guess they could lose money if everyone started doing this on their own but whatever.... I cant even begin to explain how bad i want navi in my 05' TL... I am officially hating on you right now.. nice work

thanks, til this day it works great! I'm contemplating upgrading...

i've got a backup cam hooked up and working great.
i also have a dvd player.. but never use that - i tried the WD hd player.. which worked great; but i ended up returning it because I didn't really feel like i needed it too much... I'll eventually build a car hackintosh when I'm ready.... lol

Great work! I'm thinking about doing this as well. My big question is about the wiring harnesses. When you bought your unit, did it come with the harnesses or did you have to make them yourself? I saw that you referenced a junk yard site. Did they allow you to pull the unit and wiring yourself, or did they have it all out?

i got it from another user on this forum.. actually did not come with the entire harness - the guy accidentally sent the wrong harness; I did have all the plugs though, So I just had to search for the correct types of wires with shielding with the same amount/gauge

actually yeah I don't think it'd be that bad the second time around; since i've done this i'm pretty comfortable taking apart my car - for misc things, adding foot well lighting, replacing panels, amp conversion, and dice kit movement lol.

back up cam on an 06+ is cake, just need to get an adapter that will plug into the back of the dvd unit in the trunk - our dvd unit is the same as the mdx which has the backup cam option - there was someone on this site selling the adapters pretty cheap.

Do you have any pics of the install? I'd be interested to see how you mounted the camera. What type of adapter is required? Thanks!

yes it does, I have the 04 with voice recognition. But it hasn't worked for a while because I think the mic is shot.

hmmm the harness i made quite some time back... it was a little different for me because I had all the plugs.. I just needed to extend the wires.... the junker that sold it to me gave me the entire dash harness instead... which I did use later since I made a huge mistake and melted wires doing the fog mod...

HFL Question

So, I saw you had the same issue Im having where the voice commands dont work (correct?) I have an '05 with Nav and I upgraded the Nav DVD from an 08 to get the updated GUI and speed but now my voice commands do not work at all. Is this a factor of the new DVD drive? Do I have to also put in the Bluetooth HFL because obviously in the diagnostic screen it shows it missing with the new DVD drive. I can get the HFL module but I am unsure if the 05 is pre-wired...according to the service manual I downloaded it says it is and the plug is located in the center console by the shifter area. Any insight on this would be amazing as I kinda miss the voice control feature and wouldnt mind putting in the Bluetooth.
