Woo first post!

05 RSX-S or 04 TSX (manual) ?

Narrowed my decisions down to these two cars. Haven't had a chance to test drive the TSX yet because I can't find a manual to try out at any of the local dealers. Test drove the 05 RSX-S over the weekend, and I really liked it. It was alot better then what I expected. I don't want to rush things. I want to test drive a TSX before I make up my mind. Do you guys think after I test drive a TSX, I would forget about the 05 RSX-S?

Do you want 2 doors or 4? Do you want speed or luxury?

Test drive both and see what you value more. Both are excellent cars btw.

it all depends on what you are looking for in a car.

The TSX and RSX are taylored to different markets.

Also how much do you want to modify it right away. Not much for the out tsx right now.

The RSX-S ought to be pretty quick, and I'm a fan of the exterior styling. But I really dislike the interior -- materials, colors, lack of foot room in the passenger footwell, and I'm not sure if it comes with a center armrest (the TSX has a very nice armrest + storage compartment that I use daily). My girlfriend was in love with the RSX until we sat in one -- she got the new Accord coupe instead.

Test drive both.

The RSX is more raw and lighter feeling, while the TSX is more of a sedan and feels planted.

Best I can describe it.

You're only 24 -- get the 2-door while you still can! Down the road you might have to drive a sedan.

Yup--total agreement here...I've always driven coupes, but we do go out to lunch at work quite frequently with me driving. Just got the TSX a week ago--makes going to lunch much easier!

Thanks for your guys input.

I do not plan on modding any of the cars. Will be a stock daily driver. Driving co-workers to lunch isn't really a problem, can always go in someone else's car. Handling wise, is the RSX suspension anywhere close to the TSX?

05 RSX-S approximately $23k/$24k OTD - 04 TSX approximately $27/$28k OTD. Is it really worth it to pay $3k/$4k for the TSX? Any of you guys regret getting your TSX over the RSX?

Having both, I tend to favor the RSX-S. It's much more fun to drive, and a bit quicker. In styling, I like the TSX better, and also enjoy more of the luxury type features it has. I love it when the old lady is home and I get to take the Type S everywhere, but I also enjoy breaking necks when I drive by others in my TSX.
RSX suspension is a bit stiffer than the stock TSX suspension, but not unbearable.

In a nutshell, only being able to purchase one or the other. If I were single, I'd get the type S, being married, with a kid, TSX. My .02

Both cars are great, but a test drive will help make a better decision, but also you'll have to think if you want 2 or 4 doors.

You need to drive the G35 Coupe if it is in your price range. I don't know how much you are planning to mod, but the G35 is way past either of these vehicles for about $35K. To get a TSX or RSX-S up to speed with a G35 will eat the price difference in a hurry. Also, in my experience the Infiniti dealers are much better about retaining the warranty w/ mods, and Acura is a pain in this department for the most part. Don't get me wrong, I am loyal to the Honda family and love my TSX, but the G is a serious contender, blending luxury and performance with superb value.

Maybe he bought it before the 05's were introduced?

Anyways, RSX-S and TSX, although price difference isn't big, is two different vehicles--in terms of class.

Weight out what you need and want, then narrow down your decision.

There really isn't that big of a difference between the 05 an 04 RSX though.

I'd still take the TSX though.

All these sponge bob's are freakin me out!

I think the difference is subtle yet quite significant.

iamhomin, who thinks rmactic should switch to another type of sponge bob (or a completely different one)

If you have money to burn, I will take TSX in a heartbeat. My girlfriend drive RSX(not Type-S, but I think everything else besides the engine are same) and I thank God that I bought TSX. Better ride quality, sound system, seats, better everything!!!! I know it's about $5~6K difference, but if you have the money get TSX.

I'd go with the TSX mainly because the interior is more elegant and spacious.

Also the backseats can accomodate guests (when you have them) and the car has good milege on nearly on par with the RSX Type S.

RSX Type S: 6-Speed Manual: 23/31
TSX 6-Speed Manual: 22/29 mpg

Personally after driving an Integra GS-R for so many years, I've come to loathe small cars and now prefer something a bit more comfortable and spacious. I'm not saying the TSX is the most spacious car, but vs. the RSX it seems like Night and Day, not to mention the ride is smoother in a TSX.

I have both an 04 RSX-S & TSX (6MT). 2 different cars. I enjoy driving the TSX more because of the luxury feel. The RSX is sportier i.e. stiffer ride & noisier. My TSX gets better MPG than the RSX. I think the 05 RSX looks too much like a Civic IMHO.

If I had to choose though, then I would take the TSX over the RSX.

Very true. I dont have a tsx yet..I drove it a few times.. but I had an 04 RSX for a year. I gave my rsx to my mom so i could save up for a tsx. The rsx is a great car but I want a tsx now because its a 4-door, and will suite me better when I have kids. You will regret not buying the tsx.

Monthly payments...
Just my two cents as well. I don't post much, but I thought you all should take into consideration insurance. I too, am in the market for a TSX, RSX-S, or Civic Si next Spring. Civic Si is out the window because it is just too small. (I am an accountant and need to cart clients and co-workers around regularly) The RSX-S is also small, AND, here's the kicker, when I checked with my insurance agent, I found that for my 24 year old, clean record, single self, it would cost me EXACTLY the same to own the RSX-S and the TSX with the options I wanted (budgeting $25,000 for the RSX-S and $30,000 for the TSX) Insurance is much higher on the RSX-S, so any money I saved on the cheaper RSX-S was gone when it came time to make that monthly insurance payment.

In addition, I actually had much more fun during my test drive of the TSX than the RSX-S. The TSX is just so much more buttery and refined, but it still has the sensation of quickness and nimbleness. I modify my vehicles as well, and it looks like the support will be there for the TSX within a year or so.

For me, there was no real decision to make after I did the homework.

MyopicPaideia,
If you cart clients around, why would you even consider a RSX-S? I would think the TSX would be the clear choice even before taking insurance costs into account!

Several have mentioned backseat room of the TSX and RSX. I think they are basically one in the same. The TSX is a bit wider, but to me, the leg room in back is about the same. Surely not enough of a difference to make it a reason to not get the RSX.

CMF, you're pretty much correct there. While the TSX does have a little bit more leg room, the main difference is the width you gain in the TSX. Plus it is just far more classy in my humble opinion.
