05 or 06 TSX??

Well, I was all set on buying an 05 while the 06's start rolling in. Just wanted to get your opinions on what I should do? Obviously money is an issue that's why I'm considering a new 05 model. I'm looking for a 6-speed w/ navi. how much do you think I can really save buying an 05 now compared to the 06's, and do you guys think the 06's justify's whatever amount I'd be saving on the 05? I love the new color combinations on the 06's, bluetooth, and the lower peak torque...

Case closed:

"Just took a 6-mt for a quick spin on my favorite twisty road. Some observations: The car had only 5 miles on it so the engine was obvioiusly tight. No VTECing (even for you guys). There is definately more grunt down low, much more of a push in the seat around 4,000 RPM. Maybe it's just my imagination, but there seems to be a bit more "growl" to the engine. It's kind of S2000 like. "

Get the '06 for SURE. It's better in every way (except maybe the wheels, which can be taken care of by purchasing some 04/05 TSX wheels on eBay). Even if you get a great deal on the '05, it's not really that good of a deal and here's why:

The '05 is 1 year old now. When you go to sell it in a few years, the '05 will be worth at least a couple thousand less than the '06. Unless you're planning on driving the car into the ground, the resale value will surely suffer.

Not to mention, you get more power, better navi, bluetooth, memory seats, fogs, ipod integration, better looks, etc with the '06!!

I was soooo afraid you guys would talk me into wanting the 06 even more!!! Damn.. being that it's brand new, am I expecting to pay close to MSRP for the car? Would any deals still give deals at a couple hundred bucks around invoice for the 06???

I don't know, it totally depends on what your plan is for the car. If you're going to make monthly payment either through leasing or financing, the rates will definitely be higher for the 2006 model.

Let me tell you why I got the 2005 model 1 month ago:
1) I plan to keep this car for a very long time, so resale value isn't part of my criteria.
2) I have no need for memory seats, bluetooth, and navigation.
3) I got a very good deal on 2005 and extremely low financing rate (even lower than Honda's rates for Accord, Civic, etc.).
4) I actually prefer the clean look of the 05 vs the 06.

Just remember, there will always be something new added to newer models of a car. It is up to you to decide what suits your driving needs. Think outside of the box and add up all of costs including the monthly payments, insurance, etc. Don't simply focus on MSRP. It's what you end up paying for the car is what truly matters.

Good luck with your choice. Whichever model, I think you will have a great time in a driver's seat.

Car itself looks good, fog lights and rims not bothering me now. Rear looks nice too, I'll be getting my 06 TSX within a few months.

I'm getting my '06 for invoice + $700 + Destination. If the Invoice to MSRP spread is the same as '05, I'm looking at $28620 + Taxes for a Manual Navi.

I dunno if this is relevant... but the '06 model is considered as a "facelift"... the 2007 will be totally redesigned, yes/no?

the next tsx is supposed to come out in the spring of 2008 as a 2009 model.

the current one was released nov 2002 in japan, march 2003 in europe and april 2003 in america.

its a 5 year run, so the next one wont come out until 2008. even the prelude which was a failure lasted 5 years.

If money's an issue then, either way, drop the navi and buy a map, or call ahead, or MapQuest. I guess you've considered how you're going to pay (finance, lease, future value finance) for the car, but the 05 is a great car, driven by all the people here who have a TSX and who don't drive an 04! Can you get an 06 w/o navi for less than the price of an 05 with navi?

you could probably get an 05 navi for less than an 06 without. especially considering tax and such.

but it might be hard finding a MT one. you can probably find AT ones scattered about.

I was looking around for a manual 05 but was told there were none left in Canada. For me the lower interest rate would be the clincher between the two models. If you could get comparable rates and price then 06 with the new toys.

I ended up getting a used 04 simply due to cost.

Sure, 2004 PWP MT, non nav, 47,000KM for $28K Canadian. When I searched on Trader it was middle of the pack on all 2004. The cheaper ones had higher km and the lower milage ones were more expensive (this includes manual and auto).

Here are some things you may want to consider between getting the 05 vs the 06.
1. Perhaps you might want to keep this car forever? But nowadays.....who keeps their car forever? If forever means 6 years, then ok. But I highly doubt you would drive the car for 15 years if you're only 26 years old. In other words, if you're financially more successful down the road, you wouldn't want to keep the TSX for sure. I'm sure you'd want to upgrade it to something more luxurous and faster.
2. The 2006 models has a few additional features, and you must ask yourself... do you really need all those features? Are you willing to pay MSRP for a 2006 when you can really bargain for the 2005?

For the 2006, you will definitely be paying MSRP
If you want to stay on budget and plan to keep the TSX for a long time, you might want to get the 2005 model.

The only person who would believe you have to pay MSRP for this car is someone who hasn't talked to even the worst of dealers. I think anyone who'd hand this information out is painfully uninformed or the dealer they talked to has taken advantage of their IQ of 70.

Seriously, there is no reason to pay anywhere NEAR MSRP for an '06. Call up a couple of dealers, speak to the internet sales manager and tell them you received a quote for $600 over invoice from another dealer on an '06 and that if they can do it for $500, you'll put down a deposit right now. SOMEONE will bite.

Worked for me!!

Well, maybe not at MSRP but at least less discount/bargain for 2006 model than what you would get when purchasing a 2005.

However, I also think that your choice will be very limited if you want a brand new 2005 model. Most of them have already been sold during the past month due to significant lowerings in both price and finance/lease rates from Acura.

Purchasing a 2006 model may allow you to get the color combination that you really want, instead of settling for something that you sort of like but buy it because of the price discount.

I don't agree with her I just can't understand why you have to jump down people's throats when they make a mistake or don't agree with you.

A simple "No actually, several people are getting 06's for under MSRP" would have been fine.

I admit I was a little harsh, but I tend to be that way when someone states something that's so blatantly wrong as if it's a fact. And maybe because the MSRP arguement had already been debunked by markcoburn earlier in this very thread -- not to mention the many times over in several different threads here in this forum.

STL,
My assumption on paying MSRP for the 2006 model could have been wrong. But there's no need to be so crazy about it. The demand for the 2006 model will be very high, especially during the first month or so. Perhaps you're a good negociator, so in that way you disagree with me. If I'm indeed wrong, a simple "I disagree... because etc.," would do.
Am I really blatantly wrong... I'm sure there's alot of folks who paid for MSRP during the first month 2005 debut.
Anyway, I apologize if you can get it under MSRP.... after all, I was just trying to help the guy.

BTW, thank you DOM for commenting. I really appreciate it.

I'm actually suprised they are as willing to deal on the 06s as they are. I paid $1,500 under MSRP and others are getting a lot better deals than I got.

You did much better than I did. I will end up with about $800 off and that is mainly costs taken off extras. Not a lot of competition here.

I saw my first TSX commercial. It was a local commercial sponsered by both of the Acura dealerships. With that kind of cooperation it is tough to deal and to be honest I'm not a great wheeler dealer.

We have four Acura dealers so maybe that helps. Some of our friends in the US seem to be getting what amounts to $2,000+ of MSRP. Of course you save not having any sales tax in Alberta so you actually paid less than I did.

If I traded in for an 06, anyone looking at getting a new 05 interested in swapping wheels, front bumper, skirt, and rear bumper with me? =)

I think the 05 looks better, but the improvements in HP is hard not to consider in the 06 model. I don't think you'll save that much compared to it....especially if you factor in paying for the car over a 4-5 year period. A few bucks a month?

I would however, dump those rims. UGLY as hell.....get some A-spec rims or something.

Quick Reply: 05 or 06 TSX??
