Unhappy $425 plus tax for type D maintenance is this reasonable?

Hi all

I drive NHB TSX 04 in Toronto Canada.

I am reaching my 48k maintanence soon. I checked the price with dealer and it is

$425(around 375 in US currency). Is this right? It seems so expensive.

I am wondering whether to go to a dealer because I am a student and I cant

afford to spend 500 bucks on maintenance. Tell me what you think I should do.

I'm also in Toronto, curious as to what a Type-D maintenance includes... (my manual/docs are in the car and I'm at work now, so can't check) ?

TYPE D
Replace engine oil* and filter.
Service front and rear brakes.
Rotate tires**, inspect for wear and adjust pressure.
Lubricate all hinges, locks and latches with multipurpose grease.
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
Inspect suspension components.
Inspect driveshaft boots.
Inspect and adjust drive belts.
Replace air conditioning filter.
Replace air cleaner element.

This maintanence seems like a rip off to me... most of it is just inspections... the things that they replace can be done on your own...

I would just go for an oil change.... and change the air filter yourself...

the 425 is just a starting price... if any work needs to be done after all those inspections you will have to pay for those as well...

It sounds like a rip-off to me too. I think Acura 2000 in Brampton is even more expensive on a Type D service, but not by much.

dont get the pollen filter changed by dealer. they were gonna charge me $80 to do it. i purchased the part from the dealer for $30 and did it myself, took me exactly 5 minutes. i think the cost of servicing is reflected in the amount of time the labour takes. if you consider shop cost of $100/hr its about 5 hrs labour which sounds about right to me for the servicing, i could be wrong though.

Mine was actually extremely easy to unscrew. I used a.... filter-tension-strap-thingy (?!?), looks like a handle with a leash, lol. Getting to the actual filter was hell though. I didnt want to roast my arms so I just took the passenger tire off.

I agree, everything they are checking you can do yourself. The few things are replacing you easily do yourself including brakes if they need it. Drive belts would take a bit more effort but nothing you shouldn't be able to handle.

Save your $375 and spend some quality wrench time with your TSX, they grow up so fast. Before you know it, she won't need you anymore.

Acura Pollen Filters

I would agree that the vast majority, well all of it, is easily done yourself.

Dude this is a total rip off. Dont take it in to the dealer.

My dad OWNS his own auto repair shop and he could do all that for less then $260.

I advice you to take it into an independent mechanic shop. They take care of your car more. The dealer doesnt give a sh!t about your car.

plee - maybe except for the brakes, you can do everything yourself.

jack up the car on all fours and do a quick eyeball of all those components w/a maglite; go to a honda dealer and get some lube for the doors/hinges. just look at the drive belts and check for pitting, cracking, missing 'teeth', etc.;

$375 is a rip off for inspection. or take to a local shop that does imports, hondas are very easy to maintain, normally every mechanic and their granny knows the cars.

as long as you do it correctly you have nothing to worry about.

If you dont want to do these services yourself just get a reputable mechanic to do it.
