$$$Premium Gas-Does It Add Up Fast?
Im in the process of saving up for a car and was wondering if the cost of premium gas breaks your wallet. Being in CA I would think it does. What octane does the tsx require? Thanks.

TSX requires a 91.
Coming from a Accord V6, TSX gives me a way better gas millage. Well depend on how you use the car. I don't high rev my TSX so I get about 29 - 32 mpg compare to 22-26 on my 98 accord V6.
I used 89 on my V6 and 91 on the TSX. At the end, TSX still comes out a winner.
I saved about $50 - $70 per month. But I also drives about 3500 miles per month. So i can really see the difference. $330 (V6) to $260 (TSX)
Hope it helps

I may be fat but I'm slow
Here's the math I did: I drive ~20k miles a year. I get ~25 mpg (mostly city, and 5AT). That's 800 gallons of gas a year. I figure a $.20 increase for premium, which comes to.....$160/year. Or $13/mo. Or about 1 pizza a month. If you can dodge a wrench....uh, i mean, if you can afford a $27-30k car, you can afford $160 a year extra for gas.

I use 93 octane fuel in my TSX... And I always make sure that the fuel comes from a station that sells on government rated "top tier gasoline" I know that quick trip gasoline as well as texaco and shell clean system 3 gasoline is all "top tier".....
The top tier stuff at 93 octane costs zero more than 91 octane fuel

no. it's only ~20 cents more per gallan
i usually fill every 320-330 miles and it's usually ~12 gallons.
so .2 * 12 = $2.40 more than regular gas. so it's not really a big deal.
so i fill every 3-4 days, let's say twice a week
so 1wk * 2.40 * 2x a week = $4.80/wk
52 wk * 4.80/wk = ~ 250/year more than regular.
big whoop. you could skip a mcdonals dinner a week and make up for it

Despite what everyone says, I definitely see a difference. I fill up more than before, it seems. And I get about 5 mpg less than my Celica. I averaged (city and highway) about 28-31 in my Celica. I get maybe 22-26 with the TSX. And I am paying for 91 instead of 89. And it's a larger tank which doesn't mean anything since it goes the same distance and costs more money to fill up!

** Gasoline with an octane number lower than 91 may be used, with reduced performance.
This is straight from the TSX specifications page.
It *may* hurt your zero to 60 time, or your top speed, but it won't hurt the engine. BTW, If you live at high altitudes, lower octane is advisable.

This may be a little extreme but does anyone mix different octane gas. $2-3 a tank is less then I expected. Sounds like its not something to take into consideration after all.

I've never mix the octane.... 91 only. Remember your MPG on this car depends on your driving behavior. If you like to floor the gas, the don't expect to get a good millage. My

Discover has a gasoline cash back plus card that gives you a discount of 5% on all gas purchases. This offsets the premium price almost completely. And it's 5% all the time, not just the first 6 months. I've built up a huge cash back bonus just on gasoline....look into it.
