Thumbs up 3.2 TL 20" rim upgrade

Well i said i was going to do it awhile ago and now its done, I recently upgraded my rims to 20'' chrome deep dishes, by the way they are so so clean, not alot of rubbing, i need new rear shocks anyway but scared to go to the dealer, got it aligned and all and it rides super....just wanted y'all to know that, my grill should be done by monday or tuesday so thats when i'll upload pix of all my modifications to the forum, no lambo doors though, i kinda grew up quick this past month because in a couple days i'll be 21, i plan on getting extremely drunk and have no plans on driving at all that day....i hope i wake up to my girlfriend and if i dont then i hope whoever she is looks damn good......jyeah

when upgrading to 20's the best tires to get are nitto's because they slant on each side to prevent them from having contact with your fender walls

deep dish??

Deep Dish --- I gatta see this. I got 20"s on my 3.2tl. there 20x7.5 lowenhart ldr replicas in the 114.3 bolt pattern No deep dish though .... I just cant see that happening without going negative on the camber. Ontop of that The shop I bought them from tucked my rear fender wall (not rolled) and shaved all the tabs and notches on the rear bumper. Plus im running 225-30-20 tires and they have a stretch with the slanted walls. thats the only way I got rid of the rubbing. now when I ride 4 deep I have no rubbing at all.

Ill be waiting for these pics to. I'll post pics of my rims and tires up 2 - morrow also. There off the car though becuase I put my car in the garage for the winter over here in rochester ny.

What size are your rims and tires?..

Then again you could go for 3-piece staggered rims? but I think for $5000 its just not worth it on a 1st gen TL that needs a suspension upgrade to begin with

4 inch lip is still a stupid big lip on them rims I want to see these my pics will be up after 9:00pm

I just measured my lip and at the deepest point were the buttons are at the lip is 2" and at the face the lip is 1/12" and these rims sit flush with the fenders thats why I got the 225/30/20 series tires. I believe my order is 35+ I think I'll check that out later when I take the pics.

what width and offset are your rims?? and what tires are you running

also you can update your front shocks with these 3.2tl swapable with legend front shocks being most crucial as they hold the weight of your engine. bad shocks put pressure on engine mounts tranny mounts ect... $150.00 shipped cant beat it

??dont know just got it off the net. I ordered my rims from this dude named PAP in atlanta. $1500.00 shipped with tires mounted and balanced and lug nuts. But he mounted one of my tires backwards $40 @ autofinnishers fixed that. lets not forget I have 225/30/20 thats the lowest profile tire you can get. which means more $$ so for that price how could I say no

man, i got robbed recently at the gas station so i've been off it, Gladly they didnt steal my car but they did get off with $847.00 cash and a couple of my atm cards as well, sad thing is the people who robbed me were in a chrysler 300, now unfortunately i hate all 300's....I have the same type of build rims like in that picture, mine are 20 x 8 i think cant remember what the rim shop told me, the first lip is like 2 to 2 and a half inches and the second one is like 3 but very close to 4 inches, i'll see what i can do on the pix tho, i apologize people but i'm just going thru alot right now and i gotta make that money back within the next 3days so i'm kinda hazy right now

Man, I am just glad that you were not hurt, and are still with us.This could have turned out a lot worse which I am sure that you know. I hope everything else works out, but it is all small potatoes to you being okay.
I hate it when good honest hard working people are terrorized by lazy cowardly clowns looking for a quick come up. It is a shame that you have to be so aware of your surroundings and watch your back at ALL times these days. Just a sign of the times... You cant even go to the Gas Station, hell you have to be wary pulling in your own garage!

(still want to see those pics though...... )

20 x 8 man this dude need's to stop lying now he got the same type of rims I got sh*t Imma have to switch up my rims to five star cuase a wangsta bit off my rims.

20x8 with the high offset needed for tl's is impossible to reach beyond 2" of lip

I would respect you more if you just keeped it real and see how you was really rollin.

to achieve 3 - 4" inch lip on a 20" inch rim on an acura tl Negative camber beyond the capacity of most aftermarket adjustable control arms is needed in the rear. Fenders of course need to be rolled flat and slightly pulled. Front also needs shortened upper control arms for a little bit extra negative camber (and caster). This would be an extreme fitment.

this is only a 3" lip

I got 24x10" on my tahoe and have a 6" lip and they poke out past the wheel walls

Im trying to do the same thing...a rep from work wheels told me, to be safe, go with 18x8 front and rear, +40 offset.
I'm thinking I'm going to do either 18x8 with +36 offset, or maybe try and push it a little bit and the a 18x8.5 with a offset some where between +35 and +40, I just aint too sure if I will beable to fit that wide of a wheel, I just hear the 2.5 can fit a wider wheel than a 3.2, but I aint too sure on that. Of course I will be rolling my fenders, and possiably have to camber it a bit, but I dont want to go to extreme with the camber cause of tire wear.
If you find anything out with fitment, me know.

man o man im not even going to read anymore of teekay's post im just wasting brain cells.

well as for 2.5tl's your lucky becuase you can fit a wider wheel on them another reason why your suspension is diffrent from 3.2tl. 19's are not pushin it for you super smart people. 19's are actually perfect for 2.5tl's. 19x8.5 will fit no problem as long as you keep your offset as close to +35 I believe you can go as low as +32 without having to change any camber just bolt them right on.

hint you dont have to roll your fenders seeing as my acura was 10 years old rolling the fenders would of cracked my paint. so I used a RUBBER hammer and just hammered the inside wheel lip inward on the back only. I had no problems with my front wheels

20's is pushin it but the wheel fitment verse's stock height gave me the desired 1" gap between my fender and wheel which was the look I wanted without dropping my tl. It did beat on my suspension though only in the rear.

all in all 19x8 with +40 or better is best wheel in my opinion for the tl. the full face 20x7.5" rims I got dont even look like 20"s they look like 19"s

thats why this year im going to get 19x8 5 spokes with buttons

DiegosAnotherR1 your interested in WORK wheels -- thats quality -- and there wheels would allow you to get a huge lip but of course you would have to run negative camber.

these are Work Euroline DH Wheels 19x8.5 +7 19x9.5 +7 O Disk

now thats a lip

thats a q45 as you know there offset is about the same as are's this one's camber was drop to 0 thats why he can fit those rims with the +7 offset

thats a nice Y33!

I'm looking into getting these

So you think these sizes will fit?
front: 18x8.5 +35 A Disk w/215-40-18 tires
rear: 18x8.5 +35 O Disk w/215-40-18 tires

I'm trying to get a stance like this:

maybe a little less camber in the rear.

damn those are nice wheels, way past my budget, there like 3grand without tires plus shipping from japan but they hold there value so they are a good wheel.

just go 22"s like these on a 2nd gen

haha just kidding

there's more of these pics of the 22's somewhere on this forum It was posted a while ago though

front: 18x8.5 +35 A Disk w/215-40-18 tires
rear: 18x8.5 +35 O Disk w/215-40-18 tires

those are nice as hell

His front camber is A meaning unchanged. His rear camber is 0 but only becuase he wanted to tuck his rear tires. So they should bolt right on your tl with no problem's. How much they asking for those?. If your looking for a stance like that with the angled/cambered rear wheels I would run 235-40 tires in the back so your ride wont be shitty and the tires would last also I would switch the left and right rear tire's with every oil change. So it would be easier to get non directional tire's or you would have to unmount switch left to right and mount them every time right along with the front one's

Hope you understood that?? cuase it think I confused myself

sorry I meant 235-30 tires

with that offset and width you would probably rub with 2 people in the back but if you are going to switch the camber you can make it so you dont have a problem. Theres so many setups you could do with a 2.5tl that is it difficult to tell ya exactly; you can make anything work really. But remeber when changing camber to achieve that stance make sure you find a body shop that will do an alignment for you first. It was bitch over here finding one - nobody wanted to do it for me; It was unsafe even though I told them it was a show car. finnaly went to a custom shop that did it.

what I know for a fact is that anything with a +40 offset will most surely not rub at all

thanks for the info. proably going to be going with those sizes. Camber is no problem, plenty of custom shops around here. I'm looking at under $3k shipped with out tires, and since they didn't have 4x114.3 available, its like $40 bucks extra each wheel. They make blank faces, then drill the p.c.d I need. They say it'll take about 3 months to get them here, hahahah. I'm gonna put in my order as soon as my tax return gets back. can't wait

so u did get the 20's on wich i always knew was possible. but thats not how u measure lip size g. you need to measure from the spoke not behind the spoke. either way looks clean. just not my cup of tea. too big of a wheel. 19's or 18's slammed with wide ass wheels with camber and pulled fenders. now ill drink to that!
