Where does the 2.5 exhaust manifold crack?

I'm trying to get a fix on where the exhaust manifold cracks and if there's any way to do a half ass job of repairing it just to get through inspection. Could someone give me an idea of where the crack occurs?

My recollection is where the individual pipes join the catalytic converter/header. I think it was the mid pipe that was cracked. Difficult to access for welding. I took to one shop and he didn't want to try to weld. I've read of others w/ successful repairs though.

Note, this is SS410 steel, a type of stainless. It is weldable w/ steel consumible, but this will damage the anti-corrosion properties. Proper welding would use a SS consumible.

good luck

I'm certain J&B weld won't work. Epoxies will melt/burn at 1000+F temps where the intake manifold runs. There are some muffler cements that might temporarily hold, but I'm doubtful. I seriously doubt you can get to the crack w/o removing the intake manifold. If you do that, you for sure want to repair or replace the part.

good luck

its a real pain to get it out. i have just welded my exhaust manifold about a month ago. Texashonda is correct. my break was completely around the middle pipe at the cat. worked quite well exept im an amatuer welder and i used a home depot 90 amp welder. i might need to pull it down and hit it again. That part happens to cost $500 - $700

Try searching car-part.com for a used exhaust manifold near you, go by to inspect, and purchase if good.

good luck

maybe its a ny thing but i believe you cannot purchase a used catalytic converter which happens to be attached to the manifold. bad news for me.
