Well the CEL is back, sheet!
I have re-set it again.
I will have to take the plenum out and clean it. If I have access to the 3 bolts that hold it in.

I had to take out my OBDII scanner again and read the code....P0401, EGR...was not sure myself, but the Acura dealer told me the same result EGR passages need to be cleaned.

I will attempt to get the plenum out via removing the 3 bolts that hold it down. What I do not understand is this repair is not in the service manual.

It's rather easy to get the EGR off, but it's the pipe that is a bitch. Deadsetonliving went to the hospital for a big cut when his hand slipped, IIRC. Also, its the pipe and the little chamber in the manifold that gets clogged, not the valve itself.

I got the pipe off, cleaned it and reamed the hole entrance to the plenum. I thought it was good enough to get rid of the CEL, not quite.

Mandy clean the mount part where the valve sits either ream the ports on it or remove the two bolts and two nuts to completely remove it and clean it. Also clean the pintle on the egr valve itself really good with something else besides carb cleaner. Ideas- grill cleaner, easy off, engine degreaser and brake cleaner. The pintle meaning the metal piece where the valve slides up and down. Remember to move it up and down while cleaning it. When you reamed out the port on the back of the manifold did you remove the egr plate to get more access?

I took down the EGR Valve this weekend. Cleaned it good with engine degreaser and brake cleaner, scraped that mintle and all. Cleared the code and 40 miles later, the CEL is on again. I have not read the code but probably will be P0401 again.

Fantastic!
transmission fluid and Chemtronics B-12, where do I get B-12?
Where do I exacly feed this lethal fluid?
And how come you used brake fluid?
Tell us more!!!!
We need to send you some royalties on this great discovery, if it actually works!

Jeez! Search Mandy..
You can use carb cleaner, too. I used brake cleaner because we were out of carb cleaner. This is exactly what I did and NO check engine light in 2 weeks!
Good Luck.
A couple of questions...
1) Was the car on when you poured in this mix into the EGR passage?
Ans. Engine OFF. Make sure you pour it into the rectangular hole, not the round one. That goes back to exhaust.
2) What's the purpose of adding transmission fluid? Why not just use the carb cleaner/B12?
Ans. Transmission fluid softens carbon up. So does the carb cleaner. Mixture works better (I guess). But hey! it worked for me so I guess thats all what matters. Don't use too much of it at once.
3) Not sure I understand how to hold the throttle wide open and blow compressed air down the pipe? Did you use a separate device for that? An air gun? Also, how did you gain access to the throttle? (I'm assuming the car was off for this step).
Ans. Engine OFF. Use a brick or some friend to hold the gas paddle to the floor. You must have access to compressed air and an air nozzle to blow air into the EGR port. If not let it sit little bit more and start the engine with EGR valve still out of the car and let it run for couple of mins. Then put everything back together and go for a drive to blow it all out of exhaust.

Bear with me man:
Remove the EGR Valve.
The base will be exposed, that's where you drop the fluids and where you blow air into.
Drop the trans fluid and carb cleaner (how much are we talking about here, quantity wise?).
Let sit.
With the EGR valve out, start the car, rev to 2000 rpm, blow into EGR opening (square hole). For how long should we do this?
Shut down, put bask the EGR valve, start up run around the block, blowing smoke all over the place. Avoid the neighbor's disgust.
That's it?
Thanks in advance.

Stuff happens
OK, here's what I did
First, I disconnected battery, got seafoam spray and sprayed it into the EGR passage (for about 5 seconds), waited a minute and then mixed up Seafoam with Trans-Fluid and poured this into EGR passage while engine was cool/cold.
I went in the house to wait it out, only to remember that I had just poured the mixture into the ROUND hole. $#!% $#!% Dammit! OK, no worries. I run back outside and repeat above procedure in rectangular hole. It was getting dark so I decided to wait about 24hours to let the mixture soak in.
The next day, I hooked up battery, started the car with the EGR valve still off. There was some knocking sound and valve passage smoked like crap. I panicked and shut the car off after 10 seconds. Then I put the EGR valve back on and revved the car up and basically smoked up my neighbors and the whole block for a minute. I jumped in the car and went for a drive. (NOTE: I couldn't find the compressed air device so I skipped that step).
Well, Lo and frikkin Behold, something definitely got cleaned because my car's acceleration was much smooother. I usually get some jerk forward when I initially hit gas pedal but now...it was just smooth. I floored the car a few times and burnt precious gas. Hey, CEL light didn't come on...usually it's back on by now. Great news
OK, 2 days later, I decided to quickly get emissions done before something acts up again. Drove up to emissions facility and, what the blazing heck, CEL light comes on about 2 blocks from emissions drive-in. Double $#!%. So I stopped, disconnected/reconnected battery and went in to emissions. Those guys weren't fooled though. Their system indicated that the BDI was reset less than two weeks ago and they sent me packing.
Three days later, the CEL light come on again. I give up. Crap! but the car runs so smooth. Anyway, I'll run this procedure again and also suck in seafoam through pcv valve. Maybe i really need that air compressor. <Crossing fingers X>
