Only Sudden Braking Shuts Off Car
Yesterday I was driving on the freeway in downtown L.A. and I had to stop abruptly as I stepped on the gas, the car didn't move I then noticed the car had shut off. I paniced so I started to coast to the shoulder and then remember I couln't start the car in gear or I placed it in park and turned the key and bam it turned on and was fine all the way home. When I got home I opened the hood and noticed the cap to the power steering was off so I put it back in place and today did not have the same problem just wondering if I should worry about this or not and if someone else has had the same problem? Possible problems_Crankshaft Position Sensor_Ignition Switch_and Bad Ground or even Alternator? My Car 1997 Acura 3.2 TL w/170K

You should be fine. Air probably just got into your system but if anything, it should of shut the P/S down and not the car.
Just monitor it for a few days and make sure the car is running normal.

Anyone have any ideas because it only happens when I brake hard and it happened today again 3/24/10 when I received the car back for readjusting the power steering belt.Maybe fuel/air related?

No I already changed both and that was last year this is happening recently it wont have to do with the idle control or the ignition switch what do you think? Just did water pump and timing belt runs fine but stalls when braking due to low rpm's. Is it normal to have rpm's between 750-400 while in drive and foot on brake pedal? Also any First Gen. TL out there having problems with the tensioning on the power steering belt because mine jumps and then adjusts itself dont really understand the problem maybe tensioner bolt?

Thanks you guys I removed the battery terminals my positive terminal was loose and now tight also reset the ecu and knocked on the idle sensor a little and has not stalled since. The car is currently in the shop for power steering pump problems $280 for new pump installed guaranteed with warranty tried to do it on my own but did not succeed something was wrong with the pump internally because the tension was right but still made groan sound and tried replacing with 2 used pumps neither worked just made bubbles and overflowed a sign to me of pump failure anyways thank you so much.

Anybody please with some advice thought this was over with but now I remember when I started to happen exactly it was one day I started to mess with the throttle body and sprayed throttle body cleaner in there since then its been acting up did accidently mess the idle sensor on the throttle body if I did is it fixable because it doesn't act up until I come to a hard stop. And if so is buying a used idle sensor a bad idea I know a place I can find three of them used and if it doesn't work I can return and get another.
