OBD connection fails to communicate
Today, after getting my front rotors replaced to pass inspection I had the mechanics try to communicate with the OBD. First, we try the scan tool... communicates fine. Next, we try the state inspection computer...would not connect. I called my local Honda dealer today and asked what could be causing that to happen and they had no idea. I have tried searching for a solution, but all I could find was more complaints about the same problem.
Any information on what could be causing this would be greatly appreciated. |
Did the scan tool connect after the computer? Try blowing compressed air at the pins.
~Cheers~ |
We didn't try the scan tool after the computer.

similar thing happen to me couple of times before for state inspections. I knew for fact that the odb was working.
I drove across the street to another station and it passed in few seconds. The first station refused to give my money back, I called the Clean air act of GA and filed my complaints and got my money back in a week. |
CHECK FUSES.... A lot of times the hand held scanner is self powered and some inspection machines are too. So they work and retrieve the codes and status of computer. If its not self powered it wont be able to read the computer. This hapens to me all the time at work. Also if your fuse was blown it was not the shops fault, should of have not had to give money back for something that was not their fault. It usually runs off the lighter fuse or power point plug.

Are there two pins on the connector that I can check for voltage? And, if so, which ones are they?
|
i beleive its several pins
|
There is power coming from pin #16 and pins #4,5 are grounded.

Update
I'm still having trouble with the obd connecting but I now know that battery input, and both grounds are fine but the SRS and DLC input/output pins are not. Could someone please help me find a wiring schematic? |
When I disconnect the airbags will they automatically deploy? The reason I ask is because the manual says that it will automatically short. Just want to be sure that way I dont end up causing this to cost even more than it needs to be. Also, if it does cause the airbag to deploy could I just cut one of the wires?
|
Disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes before you start working on airbags.
|
ok, I have done that but, could the airbags deploy if I disconnect the 2p connectors?
|
What is 2p connector?? you mean 2 connectors??
|
2p is what they call the connectors, they are yellow.
|
OK. What I mean was take off the negative battery post and leave it like that for about 15 minutes. You should be able to take off connectors after 15 minutes without blowing anything.
What are you trying to fix btw?? |
I'm trying to fix the obd connection. I have a diagram that the mechanic used to check the connection and I looked at my connection and the pinouts are not completely the same, so now I'm wondering if that is the problem with it.
