Need help- 98 TL- removing radio
Hi, I am looking for some help removing my radio.
I searched online and the only site that tells how to remove the radio is this website
http://www.cdplayerrepair.com/Remtips/tl_rem.htm
with the following instructions:
These units are hooked in from two 5/16 bolts in the rear of the stereo. In order to see the screws, there is a piece of carpet molding that wraps around below the radio. It unsnaps and opens like a door from the corner closest to the drivers gas pedal. Once that door is unsnapped, with a flashlight you can look up behind and see the 2 silver bolts that screw straight up. These just have to be loosened, not removed, and the radio will pull out straight. We use a 5/16 socket with a swivel, and 10 inch extension to get to them. You have to have your head down by the gas pedal to see it, and to loosen them. That was the way the we always did it, however, others have said it is easier from the passenger side. Also important is to put a light from the other side to light it up. The screw just needs to be loosen not even a full turn (more like 1/3 of a turn)
But those 2 bolts are impossible to get at.. THERE must be a better and easier way.
Please share your stories .. Thanks

In order to remove the radio,
1. Remove the "wood grain" trim.
2. Then after that, there will be 4 screws revealed (2 on each side)
3. Pull the radio out
4. Do whatever you need to do.

The hardest part is remove the wood trim!
I removed it from the passenger side to the radio! There are 2 clips right below the radio, these 2 clips are small, so u need to be careful or else u will brake the trim.
U will only need a knife to take the trim out, and a philip screw driver for the radio.

Thanks. Do you have any quick pics on where the tabs are and where I should be prying with the knife.
This way sounds easier than the 2 screw in the back of the unit. I was impossible to get at.
Thanks

The butter knife trick how could I forget.
To get at the tabs, just open up the glove box.
Reach your arm up and you will be able to feel the tabs.
Don't rush and take your time because it isn't a race.
Remove a middle tab first and then remove the one all the way to the right.
If you take your time you should not break it.
IF YOU DO!
Then go to a savage yard and pick one up, it will cost you like $25.
