Heater Fan; Cabin Air Filter

I have a 1998 TL 2.5 and currently have a few problems. Currently, the heater fan would not want to run. However, if I hit a pothole and the heater is on from the controls, the fan would turn on but I would hear a rattling sound. I think something is stuck within the fan that is preventing it from working properly. I would like to know where the heater fan is and how to access it.

Also, I recently spoke to my dad about the cabin filter and he never changed it. Considering that we had the car for 5-ish years, I would like to know how to change it.

Fan motor coming on after a bump is a sure sign of worn fan motor brushes. When a bump occurs, the brushes temporarily reseat and fan starts, until it stops next time and won't restart.

Fix is a new fan motor. Unfortunately, that requires removal of the evaporator in the 2.5TL.

If you decide to replace, I would go OEM, even though expensive, if you plan to keep the car. You don't want to install an aftermarket or used, and have to do the job again.

Cabin air filter? There ain't one. That's probably why your father didn't replace.

good luck
