A/C and Heating Problems

I have been reading a lot of the threads here trying to figure out what my problem is and it still has me scratching my head. First off I have a '95 2.5 TL.

This summer the AC would periodically work. I had my mechanic look at it and he said that best he can tell is that there is some clog within the system that sometimes moves around and based on where it is in the system can stop the r134A from flowing. He thought the clog was most probably made up of metal shavings from the compressor. He recommned that due to the age of the car to do nothing (use 4-60 air!).

Now that cold temps are here in the morning I am now having problems with the heater. On auto the heat never seems to get hot like it did several years ago. Also, my temperature gauge barely ever moves above Cold. I can get heat if I use the manual mode with the AC off but then my windows start to fog up because of the humid heat.

So does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is? Are the AC and heating problems related? Do I have a bad thermostat? I am lost on this one and would appreciate any help.

Thanks....

Ben

I would suggest replacing the thermostat. The reason why you are not getting the heat to be as hot with auto is because your a/c is also working at the same time. Perhaps another member would be able to answer this question better than I can.

Press Auto & OFF buttons on ATC panel at same time w/ keyswitch ON.

If there is a ATC code set, it will display part of the panel; fan speed bars- 3 variations, lower floor vent arrow -1, ON, and OFF. Post what you find and I'll provide the interpretations.

I agree you probably need a thermostat, but suspect other problems also.

good luck

Thanks.

I ran that diagnostic and no error codes showed up.

Does AC work correctly on manual? If yes, then I would suspect a problem w/ the ATC. I've heard that simply removing and cleaning the electrical connections to the ATC can cure some problems.

good luck

Yes the AC appears to work on manual. I did notice that the air coming out of the left vents was much colder than the right vents (passenger side).

Uneven temps from vents is a sign of low charge. I would check the system charge.

good luck
