97 TL 2.5l no tach, hard shifts

hello there . got a TL on a trade . 97. auto 2.5l 135k miles. when i got the car was a no start , blew pcm fuse every key on, tracked short to SRS systems, disconnected the yellow line from fuse panel and now it starts and drives fine, now for problems i cant seam to solve. and hoping to get some ideas here. The tach does not work , stays a 0. shifts hard from 1 to 2nd . 3rd could be nicer and 4th feels great. my D4 light is out, P is out. and the others are touchy as a sweet spot in shift selector seams to get each light on for other gears. it had codes P0700 P0725 and P170* . changed VSS with no change. pulled shift selector apart and cleaned. that solved P170* . if i disconnect the VSS i loose speedometer but PO725 goes away and and just P700 remains but shift problems stay with no change and of corse no tach. Fluid in trans smells fine and looks mostly like its normal color . eny ideas?
trying to solve the check eng light so i can part with the car.

solved. replaced coil thinking the resistor was stopping tach. P0700 and P0725 are gone , tach works and car shifts great. P1706 was solved by removing neutral safety , took apart and cleaned insides , re lubed with contact geese , reinstalled

thanks for looking.

coil was 20 bucks on ebay and vss was 8.50. so order there rather then local parts stores , saved over 300 bucks by doing what i did
