97 Acura 2.5TL Shifting Symptoms
Good day everyone,
I am posting this because I have searched several forums an have not found these symptoms or a fix so, here we go.
I have a 1997 Acura 2.5TL with 175,300 miles on it. After the vehicle warms up, the car fails to shift at the correct points. This is especially noticeable at 2-3 and 3-4 gears. The tranny stays in the lower gear until the RPM's reach nearly 4K before finally shifting into the next gear. I have no CEL on and no codes stored.
My mechanic who does my general maintenance on my vehicles says it's a transmission issue. I took it to a local transmission shop that he recommended and is very reputable and they say it's not the transmission, but the engine. They noticed that when the vehicle does this, there's not "signal" from the VSS so, of course it is suspect. But, since this seems to happen only after the vehicle is warm, they think there may be a wire frayed and want to look into it more ($$) before just swapping out the VSS. I do not know when or if the tranny has been flushed, etc. as I am not able to speak with the only other owner.
Has anyone here had similar symptoms? How did you fix the problem?
Thanks,
First time Acura Owner

First thing would be to probably do a drain and refill on the transmission if you don't know when the last time it was done!!
I was going to suggest pressure switches from experience of the newer TL's but a quick search of your year shows they don't exist. Have you traced the VSS to see if there is some frayed wires?
