96 2.5 no start
This car has had its fair share of electrical problems from day one, but mechanically its in beautiful condition. (I got it used from a reputable dealer with 125k.) The first hint of these latest troubles came when it was running. luckily I was not on the highway, because the car literally shut off in the middle of the road. It was very quiet, causing me to think the issue is electrical. This only happened once. But a few days later it started to act up again. The car would not turn on when I turned the key to "on" position, BUT, if I would turn the key slightly further, just before the starter would turn over, the battery turns on ( dash lights up, fuel pump clicks + hums etc) however if I try to start the thing, it turns over and immediately shuts off. I was reading up a bit and it seems to be that it could be the ignition switch assembly, and possibly the fuel pump relay. But I'm fairly certain I can hear the fuel pump switch on. Ps I know nothing about cars but if its just soldering a fuel pump relay or something I can probably swing it. Otherwise I would just like to approach the mechanic from an informed position.

I left out a bunch of info I just realized. For about a week this problem was spotty. Temp did not seem to be a factor. But one night as I was driving it really went weird. dash lit up with brake light, oil light, check engine light all flickering on and off, gauges going haywire, etc. after about 30 secs this stopped and everything went back to "normal" but the check engine light stayed on. It has not turned on again after I turned it off that night.

I would look closer into the ignition switch. The fuel pump relay will not cause any of those problems.... I have been seeing a lot on here that the switches go bad, mine has problems getting the key turned back off...
