Window Tinting Question

My 97 TL is tint-free at the moment, but I am considering adding tint pretty soon as part of my upgrades. Has anyone here experienced problems with AM radio reception after having tint applied to the rear window? I have heard that some ceramic based tints mitigate this problem and I may consider using the more expensive Huper Optic or the F1 Pinnacle tints if indeed there is a radio interference issue with the metallic based tints.

Any thoughts on this is appreciated..

I personally would not tint the rear window. No matter how good of a job is done, it will always bubble after a while. And it risks your defroster and radio lines.

You can use a 5 year tint instead of a lifetime tint and there would be no problems with your am radio reception. I have a lifetime tint and it hasnt affected my am radio reception. I used solar guard window tint.

Okay, thanks for the advice, but please elaborate...what is the difference between a 5 year tint and a lifetime tint? And how is the window defroster affected? Does it not work at all with a tint?

Lifetime tint is guaranteed for life against fading, turning purple, peeling and bubbling. 5 year tint is guaranteed for 5 years it has no metals in it so it wont affect your radio. Also the top part of your window has all of the dots and the tint bubble up there the best thing to do is to get a peice of vinyl and black out the top its like an extra $40 or so to get done but well worth the money.

Is the vinyl outside, inside? If I ask for it will they know what I mean or is it a DIY? Pls elaborate.

The vinyl is inside, not many places do it as this. I used to work at The Ultimate Car Toys in Dublin, CA and we did it there.(we charged $40 to add it if you were getting your windows tinted at the same time and $50 if you just got the vinyl itself) I'm not sure what the prices are now but if people are interested I can talk to the owner and maybe get a few bucks cheaper.

I just ordered some today to redo my tint as the old job look really bad. It took me hours to remove the tint. I will post some pics of my vinyl job once I receive it. This is what I ordered http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

I really don't lke the look of the black vinyl strip across the top of the window. I went to a local tinter here in Santa Cruz and they quoted $350.00 to use 35% Pinnacle Formula One with the black vinyl strip on the two side windows and the rear window. I think I want to find another place that will use glue on the dot matrix and just tint it all the way in the back.

Regarding the Hex's: They are really terrific speakers and when blasting the stereo LOUD thye seem to be extremely clear and I have no worries about blowing them like what happened with my last set. I bought them primarily for the midbass. Good quality tweeters are pretty much all the same to me.

You only need to vinal the back window, if it is done with some good vinyl it will almost look like the black paint around the window anyways. I have had some people just not even tint the dot matrix it looks better then all of the air bubbles but i still think the vinyl option is the best,
