will these wheels fit

first off i have a 96 3.2 tl

if i were to get rims what would be better 17's or 18's
i dont want to **** up the ride, i like how smooth it is
i dont want to lower it but i still dont want it to look like it came with the Z71 off-road package (if you know what i mean)

would a 18x8 wheel fit on the car?
if so what size tire would fit

i am a little confused about this offset thing too

thanks alot for everything

as for 17's or 18's......get 18's. 17's look like they're 15's from far away, especially if your car isn't dropped.

18x8's won't fit...well they will but it will stick out of your fenders. then you' be lowridin.. the width should be 7.5

as for offsets, they suggest getting +42 but people here have diff offsets and say they rub and some say they dont.. im just as confused as you are when it comes to offsets

A Great place to start is tire rack web page.
You can mix and match tires, wheels etc

The offset is just the distance from the center of the rim.

Lets say a 8 inch rim's center is 4 inchs in from both sides so center... If the mouting surface is in the center of the rim then his rim has a 0 offset.

However if the mounting surface is 55mm outside of the CENTER then this rim will has a 55mm OFF SET.

If a wheel has a lets say a -70mm off set then almost all of the wheel will stick out (HUGE DISH look), like truck wheels where it looks like the wheel was mounted inside out.
A wheel with a positive 55mm off set then that's a normal Acura TL (my 98' TL 3.2 came w/ 65mm offset wheels) Wheel where the surface looks almost flush with the outer rim.

The offset is set by the maker of the car from the design on the wheel bearings to the brakes, fenders etc. If a wrong offset is used, it could put too much pressure on a bearing that wasn't designed to take that much load or it may not clear calipers or stick too far outside the fenders.

Read this web page, it's a great intro to what an OFF SET is...

The reason we're so confused is because the offset on 2.5's and 3.2's is different. You can go lower and wider with a 2.5. I have 18x7.5 +45 offset running 225/40's and I rub with 2 heads in the back over bumps and sharp turns in my 3.2.
