Two Questions on my 97 TL, Please Help
Hey guys, I am new to the board. I just brought a 1997 3.2 with 102,000 miles and I love it. It is much better than my old car. I just had two questions. After I place the car in D4 and drive off, I hear a noise from the tire area. The dealership told me that is only the ABS activation. Is that true or is there something wrong? Also, the black paint is wearing off on the back metal window moldings. Is there a way I could paint this myself, or will I have to take it to a body shop? Thanks!

Yes, that is the ABS pump just doing a self-check.
It happens when you go 5 mph or faster, just once after starting up the car.
As for the black paint.. you can ask an auto parts store that you trust (if any) they might have an idea.

Neisha,
I have not been in your car so I am not going to be able to hear the noise that you speak of. I, myself purchased a 1st. generation 3.2TL within the last year and absolutely love the vehicle. I made this decision after test driving different vehicles throughout a six month period. On to the point, well I get this car that I love and after about a month, it starts to make this noise between 1st. and 2nd. gears, the best way I can describe this noise was kind a scratching sound. To my horror, I thought the transmission was going. I took it to a dealer friend of mine and he referred me to one of the transmission shops he uses. So I go and these people are great, the guy who will be working on my car comes out and goes on a test drive with me so that I could better explain this noise. We come back and he tells me what he is going to be doing and looking for. Basically a flush and fill with some tranny additives. Shows me the magnet, not too bad of wear however there was some. Charges me 55.00 and tells me to go easy on it for a week, (drive like a grandma). Take it easy for a week and......... low and behold, the noise is gone. I guess inside the transmissions on newer cars there are computers that set, like a memory spot creating some sort of deposit it turns out whoever owns the car previous to the new owner obviously has a lot to with where the memory sets. I got mine from an elderly couple in Miami, hence the quip, "drive like a grandma." I apologize for the length of this, I just felt it my duty to explain the only issue that I have had thus far. I hope this helps and maybe worth looking into if it at all relates to you in any way.
