Trip meter stopped working
My trip meter stopped working. If I wiggle the reset stick, it goes to all 000, but will not get engaged and turn when driving.
I think the tooth has worn out.
The odometer works just fine.
If I take it a part, will I be able to fix it or I just have to live with it?
I was thinking of buying a used cluster from eBay and replace the trip meter mechanism. Can that be done, or it’s all one piece and has to replace the entire cluster?
I rather keep my original odometer that shows original miles.

i just went through this.... there are three places to look for a problem, starting with your speed sensor. then there's the cable and, last but no least, the cluster. I ended up buying a used cluster and everythign works fine BUT you need to get the installer to write a sticker for your door that attests to the orignal miles on the car and what the difference is to the miles displayed because you will also have a new odometer setting.
Also, before you close up the cluster, make sure you check all the bulbs. Its a good time to swap in a new D4 bulb if, like everyone else I know, its has burned out. But you also want to make sure the brake light, the check engine light, the TCS light, the ABS light and others are working before you close it up because its a pain to open it up again.

I also put in a new cluster last week.
It's very easy to turn the mileage meter using a tooth pick, I put in the same exact mileage I had on the old cluster to match the new one and and everything is working as it should be.
