How often should you replace the transmission fluid?

Drain and Fill every 12,000 miles or every 2 oil changes, use Honda ATZ Fluid only.

The acura dealer will pull the plug and replenish what comes out by topping it off. O.k. But, a flush has been discussed in other threads (stickies), and I'd recommend when you hit 100K at a minimum. Fixed my shudder at 110K when I bought mine, and the screen was clogging...

It's recommended every 30k but I would do it whenever it starts turning brown which is normally before 30k.

hah... over 100k miles and a tranny flush or drain n fill has never been done to my car.

but i did it at like 115k (flush) and it KINDA made a difference. My shifts were definitely smoother though.

Yep, that is about what many people do with success. Mine had developed torque converter shudder at around 106K. with the original fluid, never changed to my knowledge by the original owner (I bought it at 106K knowing about the shudder). Now, you tell me is that good for the trans fluid to run it that long on the original fluid, how much latent damage was done. Sure, the shudder is now gone, but what else suffered in the meantime.

I'd do the first at around 60K and go from there.

OK, but still at around 100K or so, drop the pan and change the filter/screen.

If you do that you're either changing your oil way too late or your tranny fluid more often than necessary.

It's not advised to Flush the tranny with high milage car, but draining and refilling is ok.

Transmission fluid can be clean and clear but still be extremely bad and nasty. Condition is more based on color and smell. If it isn't an ATF-Z1 purplish-pink and smells burnt then it probably isn't too good. It's a much worse idea to not change your transmission fluid. On Hondas it's only recommended to drain and fill.

Now that is an old wives tale.
