I saw mention of the TCS in the manual or some such but I think it referred to the Canadian edition of the car. It might have just been that the US law didn't require an idiot light?

Not sure about the Canadian edition but in the US edition, it was only on the Premium models. As far as removing it, it's tied in with the ABS system's speed sensors, the steering system as well as having some type of lateral acceleration sensor; all of which feed the necessary information to the powertrain control module. Unless you're some sort of automotive engineer, you probably did well to leave it alone. Just make sure it's off when you don't want to use it which is easy since off is the default position.
